ipod connectivity to interegrated stereo amps

hi,

wud like to know if there are ppl here who have all their music on ipod ( classic 80gb or 160 gb) and are audiophiles at the same time.

need advice on how to connect ipod to hifi system (stereo amp, not AVR) to get the best possible sound.

there are ipod docks available from CA and now even from NAD which can be wired to aux in the amp. denon even has a wireless dock. however all amp brands do not have docks / wireless docks.

so wanted to know if anybody has experience in connecting docks with amps of different brands eg, connecting denon dock with say marantz stereo amp.

request all to share their knowledge / experience on the subject of connecting ipod docks to stereo amps (not AVR).

thanks

Re: ipod connectivity to interegrated stereo amps

hi,
Why don u try connecting the ipod directly without the dock??
There is a cable called EP-(2)RCA, which u can connect directly...
{only prob is it won't charge..}

The docks from audio companies surely sound better than the cables above. If your requirement is mostly PC based home audio then you can consider Squeeze box from Logitech. It competes with stand alone CD player if you capture your CD as WAV, WMA lossless or Apple lossless.

The dock will sound better than direct cable. Most manufacturers have docks for their amps, e.g. CA, Denon, Marantz, etc. Best option is to get the largest capacity iPod, i.e. 160 GB and store all your music in lossless format rather than M4A/MP3. Will be able to store a few hundred CDs. Use a good CD ripper like EAC and the result is fairly good sound approaching a budget CD player.

For more money this is the best option. But will suggest you connect a 250 GB or better NAS to the Squeezebox so you don't have to leave the PC on.

A dock will definitely sound better than a ep to rca cable, but ofcourse thats an additional expense.

If you dont wish to spend on a dock then try the award winning iChord cable -
chord co ichord analogue interconnect for hi-fi and home cinema
