Re: DAC's

It is pretty decent for a 100$ card. Infact I need to update my signature. I'm currently using a friend's 1212M as an SPDIF source. This is significantly better than the 0404 both as an analog source and also as a digital transport. As an analog source is quite close to my standalone DAC. What it misses out is the warmth in the midrange, the bass impact and absolute top end extension. Since its meant for monitoring, it does sound a bit cold and analytical but not to the point that it is unlistenable. However I'm fairly certain its many times better than most entry level standalone cd players.

The Esoteric D70 is not in manufacture any more. The P70 and D70 combo was priced at $14000. It cost me about the same. For the price its a steal. A similar performing product would today cost upwards of $20000. It easily beat the Mark Levinson 30.5 and the 31 transport/dac combo which cost close to $25000 in those days

From the very same site i linked to. I paid 280 USD then and another 100 for shipping. Plus there was customs of ~2200 rupees. Still completely worth it.
