And here is a link to the reference system on which the usb converters were tested. Not an entry level system, but that of a serious listener.

Cheers,

Sounds like a terrific system. Love the Dartzeels but not a big fan of the Sashas. I've tried to like Wilson (had two models) but just were not my cup of tea. Interesting that the pic shows a pair of Nagra amps I think. Also no pics of his digital system as yet. I am sure it is a very resolving system and nice to have a room like that to listen in.

By the way, Elberoth has been on the Audiogon forum for many years. Some people like his opinion and some don't. Like all audio there is no absolute, particularly at the highest levels.

BTW my post on Elberoth's system was in no way an attempt to revisit our earlier discussion Staxxx, but that is the case with every review, not only this on the 'Gon. Trust me I, have been on the 'Gon since 2001 (2 years after it started operations I believe). However there is another forum called Audio*@%^*nado where lot of the high end crowd congregates and Elberoth is held in high esteem.
Anyways Elberoth's system, for the record, as described is $60,000 retail, not counting his room (those are US prices - if you talk insane India pricing I would say close to 50 lacs) and IMHO highly resolving (you can clearly see he has done some scientific room treatment rather than seat of the pants 1st and 2nd reflection point treatment & corner bass traps), your dissatisfaction on the Wilson's apart, so I would tend to lend a lot of credence to what he has to say. Also the reason his system shows different components in the pics. is perhaps because he has not updated his system pics.
Cheers,
Sid

Re: musical fidelity m1 cdt

And finally Staxxx, I would like to state that when a person like Elberoth with a highly resolving audio system in a properly acoustically treated room, with verifiable pedgiree, and quite an enthusiastic demeanor and what appears to be a lot of experience, does seem to think that a scared cow like DCS is bested, then I would pay attention. Yes a lot of people seemed to disagree, but what are their antecedents? Do they have the current system that Elberoth has, did they take the time and pain and financial burden that Elberoth faced to perform his test? Simply posting that what he has done is not valid is easy - we have a lot of armchair experts in our Hobby- people seem to know the sound of equipment just by reading about it - thanks to Google and such.
Cheers,
Sid

And now esteemed Fm's coming back after that brief detour on Dcs vs usb converters, this transport in particular has caught my eye, strictly because of its looks - no idea how it sounds. Any info. will be highly appreciated.

Re: musical fidelity m1 cdt

After quite a bit of research, talking to users, dealers, reviewers, etc., I have finally pulled the trigger on the Line Magnetic LM215 Cd player sight unseen, music unheard. But that is not a transport you say? Well reason for deciding on this is two fold, one based on a respected user's feedback ( thanks, Asit), who felt that it was very analog sounding and excellent for its price (albeit when used with its internal DAC), secondly with its digital out, it can be used as a transport regardless. The options I had were the Mf cdt and Oppo 103,105 and a few others as listed earlier in the thread, and having seen the build quality of LM gear first hand in another FM's system I am quite sure at least in this department it will be way ahead of the options I have considered. Here's to hoping it will gel well with my setup.
Cheers,
Sid
