Connecting Airtel HD recorder thru HDMI cable.
Hi guys, I brought the Airtel HD recorder connection a week ago...ihave a full HD LCD tv but the airtel guys didnt give me HDMI cable..donno if this happens for all..i want to connect the STB thru HDMI cable .I have below questions on this. 1.Will there be any significant improvement in sound, picture quality by connecting thru. HDMI cable instead of the normal 3-cable wire. 2.If its worth buying a HDMI cable...can anyone suggest a gud HDMI cable..suitable for DTH. Please give me suggestions |

Re: Connecting Airtel HD recorder thru HDMI cable.
You can buy any cheap HDMI cable if it works. Its a digital connection so if you get proper sound and video it will work (without any quality issues at all). You could use component output to get analog HD picture, however if you are using composite (single video cable) with LR stereo to your TV, it will only give you interlaced SD picture which will be upto 5 times inferior than 1080i.
I hope you are talking of regular DVR offered by Airtel having HDMI output or is it a NEW true HD recorder? |

Re: Connecting Airtel HD recorder thru HDMI cable.
I still didnt undertand the above reply.Iam using a RCA cable right now..iam not sure on wat to call ..composite?component?..it has three wires...with red, white and yellow colored sockets....wat iam asking is if a HDMI cable instead of the RCA cable will give any improvement in picture quality and sound ...yes i have a DVR HD box that Airtel normally gives wid HDMI port....donno if they are offering a True HD box.

Re: Connecting Airtel HD recorder thru HDMI cable.
The red and white cables carry audio and the yellow one carries a composite video feed. The quality of the composite video is the least of all the outputs available. HDMI will give you the best quality and will transmit audio as well if you have a suitable TV or receiver. Through a single cabel at that.

Re: Connecting Airtel HD recorder thru HDMI cable.
Red for Right side speaker sound, White for Left side speaker sound, Yellow for Picture or Video. This gives you about 5 times less picture quality and bit inferior sound. Recommended is to purchase an HDMI cable to get the best quality from both HD and normal channels.
Let us know if you have more questions. |

Re: Connecting Airtel HD recorder thru HDMI cable.
I too have brought Airtel DVR.My pana v20 recognises the input signal as 560p.Can any one tell me whether this DVR is HD or.....The manual does not mention anything about HD.Airtel helpline says its HD but did not clarify the resolution it can display explicitly. Can any one tell me what is the resolution of CWC broadcast on ESPN star cricket. If its 560p its is ok else I will change the DVR by HD STB.Thx to the gurus in advance.

The Airtel HD box does not mention the resolution inside. Hope it is HD but I am not sure. My receiver will tell me once it is activated tomorrow. I will raise hell with Airtel if it is not HD. |

Re: Connecting Airtel HD recorder thru HDMI cable.
If the DVR is not HD, then connecting an HDMI cable instead of your current connection (composite cable) is not going to improve picture quality. According to previous posts, your box is going to output SD over HDMI, so no sense in getting an HDMI cable.
Not that you cannot connect an HDMI cable, but it will be no different than your current connection, at least with this box which does not output HD. |
