TheVortex, aren't these guys expensive?

At least the Pioneer DV-400 should be available from a number of shops across the city.

BTW, one brand we all seem to miss out is Panasonic. They have introduced some new DVD Players in India, and their showroom in TNagar seems to have demo and stock. One of us must visit and see how they perform. Panasonic S series of DVD players such as the S-92 have legendary status.

Yes, they are. The Pioneer 400V can be had for around 5000 there.

I have seen the Panasonic DVD although I have not really tested it. I think it was quoted around 13 or 14K.

Thanks,
I have been there before but never really noticed the dvd players. I was overwhelmed by the speakers! I called up somebody in the grey market and he said Pioneer 600 AV is close to 6k. Sounds cheap!!

ProFX in Spencers Plaza is the authorized dealer for Denon in Chennai. You could go to them for a good deal on quality DVD players.

From the grey market. I'm not sure if he knew what he was talking about though. I can provide his contact if required.

yes, As TheVortex says, it is a very good price. Just ensure that it is set for Region code Zero before you shelve you cash out. Resetting region codes in Pioneers seems to be difficult.

One way to check is to see the back of the player. There will be a Region Code Logo as shown below. This must have the number 0. If not, and the seller says it is region free, play a couple of DVDs and check for yourself.

Re: Samsung DVD-1080PK Vs Pioneer DV-600AV-S

How about the new Sony DVP-NS708HP/B ? Seems to have comparable specs, any idea how the Sony would compare to the Samsung and the Pioneer?

Also, are there any panasonic models worth considering? I don't want to spend more than 6k on the player, so the Denons etc., are out of question for me.
