Please help decide on a budget DVD Player
Hi everybody, I am from Assam and has been a passive member of this forum for quite sometime. Dear all I would be grateful if I could please receive your help in choosing a DVD player for my setup consisting of DVD > Denon 1707 AVR > Jamo 406S speakers. Now I was using a Philips DVD which has gone kaput and is not worth repairing, I am in a very tight budget and want a DVD player mostly for movies and some occasional music. I want your help in deciding between LG DV388 / Onida DFX 5990. Pioneer and all such brands are not available here, but on enquiry Hi-Fi Zone in Delhi has Quoted Rs 35oo for the 310 and Rs 5000 for the 410 DVDs respectively. Please help me take a decision a.s.a.p. (Please note I am using a Normal 29â CRT TV not LCD â finance again.)
P.S. Mods dont know if this is the right place for this thread please move it if required. Thanks |

Lifewater:
Between the LG and the Onida, the LG has better specs, and includes a 1 year warranty, while the Onida has a 6 months warranty. Go for the LG. I have read some reviews in this forum of people using it and liking it. Cheers |

Re: Please help decide on a budget DVD Player
I've had compatibility issues with LGs. They play some DVDs and some they don't.
I've found the Philips to be very good all rounders. Philips DVP5986K/98 DVD Player with HDMI and USB HDMI 1080p DivX Ultra Costs approx Rs 5,000. |

I currently own a LG dv 388( 2 days old ) and a Sony NS 78H . Both of them are excellent players. I am currently using my Sony DVD player with a 29 inch crt tv and all I an say it, the picture quality is really good. However the two major shortcomings of Sony is that it does not have Analog 5.1 out + No USB playback. As mentioned above Philips also is good but it all boils down to what your need really is . For ex LG is not very famous in this forum but still I demoed it, liked it and Decided to go for it . It was cheap ( cheap as compared to my then bought Sony by 1.4k) and it has some very good USB features. But again since it has been only two days its to early to comment. Another very good option is the 1080-PK which also is a very good player. We have an active discussion going on here :-http://www.hifivision.com/dvd-player...-iwth-usb.html I think it will be of great use to you . Hope this helps. |
