A/C Inverter model vs 5 Star A/C

Hi all,
I am planning to get a split a/c installed in my bedroom (removing my hitachi quadricool window to my mom's room). I am stuck with the thought of going for 5 star rated 1 ton a/c (Pana or Daikin) or Inverter Model a/cs (Pana due to cost). On an average it costs around 4-5k more than 5 star rated A/C. Is it worth the difference?

We would be using for 6-8 hrs for 5-6 months in a year. ANyone did any cost calculation?

Re: A/C Inverter model vs 5 Star A/C

1. Room dimensions?
2. Which floor is the room in?
3. Is something constructed on top of the room?
4. Sun facing portions on the room ... walls as well as windows?

There is a lot mentioned in the earlier AC threads. Why asking the above ... to judge whether 1 TR is ok, thats why. The tonnage has to be as close to the actual requirement .... there too, YOU have to decide whether to use the AC (predominantly) during day or night.

Inverter ACs would make a terrific difference on electricity bills if AC is used regularly for elongated periods (for both day & night ... minimum 8 hours) . This is a bloody difficult subject to explain on the net.

Drop Pana. Include Toshiba & O General with Diakin ... for high end. LG and Haier are also ok for mid brand. All these are for Inverter ACs. You may consider Hitachi for high end non-Inverter.

Personally, have NOT understood the star ratings generally given nowadays. The most important component ie. the compressor remains the same! WTF?

Re: A/C Inverter model vs 5 Star A/C

thanks avid, timely reply, i am going to finalize the a/c tom. The usage will be from 9 pm to 5 am and during afternoons 1 pm to 5 pm on weekends. Usually we use this a/c for around 6-7 months a year. The room size is 10X11 and my a/c mech says 1 ton is perfect and 1.5 is over kill tht too in split.

For 5 star rated: I planning on either Daikin (27K) or Onida (23K). I spoke to a friend in Onida and he rates their A/C really well along with hitachi compressor.

Inverter A/C of Daikin comes to 35 - 37K

Now thats around 10k diff btw Daikin 5 star and Daikin inverter. Does it make sense to pay 10 k more. I am also hearing concerns on the inverter circuit failing. This is my main apprehension now. 5 star or inverter and is it worth the extra 10k

Re: A/C Inverter model vs 5 Star A/C

10 x 11 is a SMALL room.

You have'nt answered my other questions ......? You might also be able to do with 0.75 TR split unit. The idea is to make sure that the AC does NOT run on-off to as much as possible. The compressor HAS to run continuously for LOW power bills ... confused?

But, that a fact. Inverters reduce the speed of the motor running the compressor depending on the heat load ... another way to ensure that the compressor does NOT shut off. In normal ACs, the compressor runs at only one speed .... so, one has to make sure that 'chill' out almost equals the 'chill in'.

0.75 TR ..... if available........ provided something is constructed on top of the desired room.

My two ground floor B/Rs are 15 x 11. Both have 1 TR splits. Both have construction on top of them.

BTW, Hitachi does NOT provide their high efficiency compressor to other OEMs. They use the 'special' ones only on their high end models like Atom.

Re: A/C Inverter model vs 5 Star A/C

Thanks very interesting. I have 2 more floors on top of mine and also my room is not directly facing sun. So you are saving, I would save electricity if I buy a Daikin .8 ton 5 star?

Also, one answer I am not getting anywhere is, what is the comparable saving between a 5 star model and inverter of same tonnage?

Re: A/C Inverter model vs 5 Star A/C

0.8 Tr Daikin is ideal ................

Inverter comes into play IF and only IF the AC is of higher capacity than 'required'. In such cases, power costs are reduced by as much as 40%, as on-off operation is eliminated.

Right sized AC ... you don't require Inverter. Night time you would find the 0.8 TR running on-off due to lesser sensible load as compared to day running, when the compressor should run continuous.

I have tried to use abso layman's language here ......... even the next gear shift becomes too difficult to digest.

Pls try will try to catch up.

So better off buying Daikin .8 5 star than inverter. Then what about the instant cooling time. After 42 C outside temp, one of the important feature I look for is how fast can the A/C cool the room. Wont a .8 take more time than 1 ton to bring the room at 24 C?

Re: A/C Inverter model vs 5 Star A/C

Would 5 -10 extra minutes matter much?

Why put that extra exertion on the compressor ..... it requires to last for minimum 10 years. This feature is there in Inverter models ..... higher rpm for the first few minutes ...me thinks 10 minutes to cool faster .... big deal, huh.
