ASUS O Play HDP-R1 Owners Thread
I got ASUS O Play HDP-R1 2 days back. This thread is for all ASUS R1 owners to share their experiences about the product. Hope to hear more from R1 owners. Just with 2 days of experience with the product, am far than satisfied for now. Is there a way to check its chipset without opening it up. From the manual/box, it is no where clear if it is a Realtek DD or DD+ (DTS MA) chipset. |

Re: ASUS O Play HDP-R1 Owners Thread
Interesting link about Realtek chipsets
iboum.com : Future Entertainment Technology : Realtek 1073DD+ / 1283DD+ Explained Starting in Spring 2010, Realtek switched production for all 1073 and 1283 chipsets to an updated version called '1073DD+' and '1283DD+'. These new chips are identical to their 'DD' predecessors except that they are now capable of passing through (bitstreaming) lossless HD Audio formats (DTS-HD MA / Dolby TrueHD). To be clear, all 'DD' versions of the Realtek chips are capable of passing the lossy HD Audio formats such as Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS. The only difference is in the ability to pass lossless audio as found on Blu-Ray discs. Unfortunately, several of the original Realtek Media Players were advertised as capable of lossless HD Audio from launch in summer 2009. It became apparent around the end of 2009 that the original chips were never going to able to pass lossless HD-Audio. This confusion / false advertising has been covered in detail around the internet and we won't start pointing fingers here. What we will say is that the iboum site has always published the most accurate specs. We have been accurate about Realtek HD-Audio issues since late 2009. The situation we have now with Realtek chipset players is confusing and complicated. Manufacturers are taking different approaches to the introduction of 'DD+' based players. Some are creating new products with these chips (Egreat R4A, DViCO 6600+) whilst some are simply using the new chips in existing products (ACRyan Play! On, Mede8er). |

Re: ASUS O Play HDP-R1 Owners Thread
Good to see this thread here.
I have this HDP-R1 media player and have absolutely no issues with the file format support as far as music is concerned. I haven't tried much of the video files, as I am not a video guy, but the common video file formats (avi, mkv, wmv etc) plays without any glitches. The user interface is quite plain but serves the purpose. Though, I have one issue with my player. As advertised, I tried to play music files from my 160GB WD HD by simply pressing the "Music" button on the remote but the music didn't played randomly. My sole reason of buying this product was because of this feature only but it has been a let down. Guys, if anyone can check and confirm if the issue is there with all or it's just me

Re: ASUS O Play HDP-R1 Owners Thread
I own a ASUS O!Play Air HDP R3 and I am also completely satisfied with this product. Have used it mostly for video and it pays them quite well. I am yet to purchase an LCD but on my 21inch CRT it works like a charm especially playing all files (except wmv) over the air pulling from my NAS or my shared folder of PC or shared CD/DVD drive.

Re: ASUS O Play HDP-R1 Owners Thread
was trying to connect the O Play to the LAN. Somehow the DHCP did not work. gave the O'Play a Fixed IP. The WiFi Router (Airtel) admin page detects the Ethernet Port being used and even picks up the MAC ID of the O PLay...
But when I try to use the Online Services on the OPlay, it fails to do anything. What could be going wrong. Any cursors to this ?? |

Re: ASUS O Play HDP-R1 Owners Thread
Yesterday i purchased Asus HDP R1...
I guess now eligible to write under this thread... After long search and going through almost all threads under media streaming I concluded this is the best "suited" model for me... (considering requirement, features and cost) I have got glimpse of this player yesterday, during which following were the first impressions...(setup tried on 1Tb GoFlex HDD with power supply,320 GB Transcend HDD, optical out given to my sony Dz510 and 21 CRT TV....) - The connection to HDD are spontaneous, no time taken to read.. - Menu looks bit small but as its 21" CRT so.. will try on 32"LCD this weekend at home - Settings are too simple to change/wary... - Played all formats i have in HDD.. - was giving Dolby Digital with no delay whats so ever, even after forwarding.. - the forwarding is bit tricky... you make it 2x then wait to happen forwarding(actual), then go for 4x, like wise so on... - subtitles are instantly on, editing color, size, position are easy.. - about music did not get time to see things like shuffle, playlist and all... will put during weekend... btw, I got this player at 4900/-... My next focus will be LAN connection & eSATA port on this player (so who have this player and use this features let me know...) Pavan... |

Re: ASUS O Play HDP-R1 Owners Thread
Hi
I have an Asus HDP-R1 for almost 9 mths, use a WD 2TB HDD with BR movies etc. I think a 2TB HDD is too large for the player as sometimes it takes too long to read and keeps lagging, but with a pen drive no problems. I have not updated it as yet. |
