I think it streams not only "You Tube" but any online streaming services like Movies,Documentaries OR Live matches.. :-)

this device is good for those who wanna do youtube. I have not tried chromecast with netflix as i'm not able to configure my s4 to install US apps.

youtube runs faster than many mostly inbuilt smart TV youtube APPs.!

Has casting via chrome browser improved? Have you tried playing netflix on your chrome browser(with the help of VPN/DNS/media hint plugin/hola plugin etc) and casted it on TV? Was there a lag in video or audio?

Same with Hulu- I could play it on any device but when I send it to TV/C-cast it says ‘its not available outside US which is weird. This means when C-cast is contacting Netflix/Hulu directly its not passing the location test. Which means it cannot be used in India for these services using DNS solutions.
A Wi-Fi router with DNS Masquerading (dnsmasq) is required in addition to Geo-Location service (VPN or DNS based). It must be compatible with firmware like DD-WRT, OpenWRT or Tomato until Google does not remove the hard-coding from the Chromecast dongle.

802.11n based routers viz. Asus RT-N16, Linksys E1200, TP-LINK TL-WDR3600, ... can be updated with such firmware. 802.11ac routers are expected to get similar support in the coming months.

while i am able to use netflix on my galaxy s4 via VPN and on apple TV also I can use netflix hulu etc using UNOTELLY DNS service.

But when I tried chromecasting netflix, it did not work. probably i might have to dd-wrt my router and then provide VPN settings to route all traffic..then it might work. but too much a hassle so gonna use it just for youtube and chromecasting chrome tabs.

p.s. if we could just edit the DNS servers of chromecast and use those of unotelly it would had worked!

Re: 'Chromecast'ing In India: My review

I have tried the DNSMasq workaround on my router by flashing it with DD-WRT. Frustratingly it did not work on my TP-Link WR841N - the router was not able to make the static DNS "stick" (which was happening with the stock firmware).

Has anyone been able to make it work on any router? I would much rather buy a new router than a new streaming player for netflix.

I found that from my normal work laptop I can stream local videos in 420p pretty reliably to Chromecast. 720p is patchy and 1080p doesn't even start. I think that may be more because of limitations of my PC than of the network or Chromecast.

I haven't tried streaming netflix.
