Re: wadia itransport

The theory seems convincing,
But i feel there is some magic abt the anolouge sound.
Esp since recently we compared a good jaaz Lp & the same recording on the
K2 XRCD. Though the cd sounded good but the lp def sounded much more articulate, musical & warm.

I'd also like to know if an external DAC will improve the sound in avg cd player
aka the nad's /marantz/CA etc
Thanks

I am not sure I would categorize Marantz, NAD and CA as average CD players. The DAC inside these players will be as good as or even better than an external DAC, unless the DAC is made from specialised companies such as Benchmark. A

DAC1 from Benchmark is around 950$ in the US. If you are going in for a DAC such as DAC1, I would not ven been looking for a good CD player. Any simple CD transport (costing say 4 to 5K in INR), even a average DVD player with digital out, hooked to a DAC1 should take you to audio nirvana.

My point is when you spend 50 to 60K on a middle to high end CD player from NAD, CA, Rotel Cyrus etc, you may not need an external DAC.

I am not sure I can answer either question.

Benchmark DAC seems to be available only through the Net. If nobody else comes up with a dealer name, just send a mail to sales@benchmarkmedia.com asking for dealer details in India, if any.

Most of the DACs that have received reviews are from expensive brands such as Bel Canto, Wadia, etc.

In this forum I have seen a few people use a DAC from Beresford (Home HIFI) and they seem happy with it. This is again available online and the landed prices including customs and courier seem to be around Rs.7500 for the model TC-7510

Cheers.

Crossposting from another thread after request to do so:

If I compare an ordinary DVD player (say the ordinary LG thing) with digital out connected to a DAC (Bredford) vs a good quality CDP like CA 640C, which would be preferable?

Technically, it should be very similar as the DVD player is sending digital signals and the actual conversion to analog is done by the DAC.

Thoughts??

This has already been answered. If you have a good quality DAC, all you need is an ordinary transport that can play a CD well.

A good quality CD Player such as the 640C combines the transport and the DAC is one unit. When you connect an external, you use just the transport part of the CDP. You will be able to get very similar output with this combination or even better.

Better still use a PC with a professional sound card and lossless FLAC files.

yes that is an option, but every PC I have owned has given that slight fan noise which can be very irritation.
I was thinking of a cheap player with USB support to connect an external HD pushing data to a DAC which would drive a stereo amp.
