This guy never seems to amaze me with the kind of soulful tracks he generates with the flute. Some traks like "Viaje Sagrado (Sacred Journey)" or "Embrace" from this album are truly enthralling.

Same goes for his first albumthat I heard "Music form the Grand Canyon"

Sanjay, nice album that, all the way. Very strong material, and minimalistic production that lets the band shine through. It's almost a live sound - if you check out 'Down to the Waterline' version on the Beeb live disc recorded around the same time, it's pretty much the same.

I feel many of these songs are much stronger than the single, 'Sultans of Swing'.

Also dig the 'Making Movies' album, it's a bit more ornately produced, but some of the songwriting is even stronger.

Not sure why 'Brothers in Arms' gets all the kudos..

While on the topic, listened last night to the Knopfler solo album, 'Ragpicker's Dream'

On the Dire Straits album, I like Six blade knife and In the Gallery a lot and Water of Love. Of course I also like Sultans of Swing and Down to the waterline. What amazes me is the musical maturity these guys had so early in their careers.

By the way, I heard Ca-Ira by Roger Waters. An opera, and honestly, I was not too impressed. Radio KAOS was so much better.

They have since recorded a number of CDs for Warner Bros. that have all been big-sellers, not surprising considering the popularity of James and Ritenour. Larry Carlton took over the guitarist's spot in the late '90s, first appearing in Fouplay on the band's successful 1998 album, 4. The group's music borders on jazz with some strong improvisations mixed in with large doses of pop and R&B, about what one would expect from these studio musicians.
