With all due respect to everyone I start this post ! as you all know I never indulge in fact fighting ! even the so called debate always turns out to be an argument in the later stage,so even that is a big NO NO for me !

But there are some things that needs to clarified hence my post !

Dear Awedeophile if just read the what the quote says,

Have I said that no other manufacturer uses other material ??? also when we talk its all about the majority ! I've said this time and again !!

When I say they use wood that means majority ! one for the fact,The much hyped and critically acclaimed Utopia Series from JMLAB is made from the very same MDF ! now this costs 40+ lacs per pair !! so what does this mean ??

The very moderately or cheaply priced Pacific Evolution (56K) from Wharfedale has 8 coats of lacquer ! The Usher has 13+ coats(BE718 costs 96K) so whats does this mean and imply ??

Now coming to the simple thing ! I've made it very clear that speaker making is an art not a backyard gardening (even this sometimes is art in itself) !! but even then if you have an issue then Am sorry !

Now again if you read my post !

Well is not an example to you ???? the Usher uses the Beryllium tweeters and some top of the line raw materials and manufacturing technics ( as mentioned above, the speakers are having 13+ coats), So I'll ask you now please show me a speaker that uses this very same or similar material at the same cost or less !!

Also for crying out loud this company has hired THE single most influential person in Audio field DR D.Appolito ! So does that mean the R&D is not as good as other makers ?? and does that mean DR. D.Appolito does not know about R&D ????

Well For the sake of information let me tell !! when I post I make sure I know what Am talking bout ! Am not one of those who GOOGLE COPY PASTE stuff !! I only post if I think I have some substantial facts to add ! I just don't post for sake of it !! Always I make sure that what Am talking makes sense and the same has been reflected in my 500+ posts !!

but even then if you guys think what I've said is not right ! then well Am sorry ! may be I should rethink my posting strategy or lack of it (coz uptill now I thought otherwise)!!

As always this is not to hurt anyone's feelings and as always if done unknowingly Please excuse me !!

Regards.
soundsgreat, apart from the manufacturer's margins, what most of us have not touched upon, is the Dealer's margins which in most cases range between 40 - 45% at min. and adds substantially to the cost. This is true of electronics and am sure it would hold good for Speakers also. No wonder from a handful of dealers a few years ago there are dealers, home theater specialists and cosultants who undertake setting up systems on turn-key basis.

Well since I own an Usher, let me tell you the speakers I listened to before getting it

Dynaudio Contour 1.3SE / S1.4 / S3.4
Dynaudio Focus
KEF Reference 201
Thiel CS2.4
Monitor Audio GS10/GS20
Dali Helicon 400 Mk II
Focal Electra 1007Be
Cadence Arita Electrostats
Martin Logan Summit
B&W 805S
Jamo D590/C807
Magnepan MG3.6
Wilson Sophia/Duette

Some of these speakers cost significantly more than the Ushers and a few such as the Duette and the ML Summit sound better too. But what I found was that in no way could I say that the Be-718 was significantly inferior to any of these super high priced stuff. I more or less found everything I was looking for in a speaker with which I could live for a very long time. The icing on the cake was the price of the speaker.

Re: Justifying the Cost of Speakers

Reignofchaos, this sounds quite a long and impressive list. And you settled for Be-718. Good for you. This proves that how this HiFi thing is subjective.

I here remember a friend of mine who test drove Maruti -800, Santro, Tata Indigo, Ford Ikon, M&M Scorpio, Honda City , Skoda (he wanted to try MB E series but guys there were less enthusiastic to demo him one so he dropped that idea) and he finally settled for a Maruti 800. He says , after all a car is just for trasnportation, taking you from point A to Point B.

Unleash_me: My speaker 'brand' is on that list, but the model I have is way way way down the line.

Re: Justifying the Cost of Speakers

i would like to add a point here, even though am not a audiophile like some of em here.
We just cant have the best of the best at any point,we just live with what ever we have and claim as a personal best.
After all this is all abt self satisfaction.
I remember one of my friend comparing his 1200 Rs creative speakers with my onkyo, saying his, gives him a gr8 performance.I was just looking at him with a smile, poor fellow does not know audio,is what i can say.
So lets all live with what we are blessed and what we are capable of.

What model of creatives? If its the Gigaworks T40/T20 then its quite possible that they are better than any onkyo out there .
