Re: New ...and Making An HT for myself

Dear Pranab,
For your room dimensions, a projector might not be a very good idea. You can instead look for a good plasma, a Pioneer Kuro.. There is a thread discussing the plasmas (http://www.hifivision.com/television...wise-only.html)

The rest of your budget can be used on audio. There are quite a-few threads discussing the same.

Cheers..

Re: New ...and Making An HT for myself

Welcome Pranab.

I would suggest you keep your projector for the time being and buy a good 1080p Plasma.

As for speakers I strongly suggest Dali Ikon 6 package. The second option would be Monitor Audio Bronze package followed by the Tannoys.

As for the receiver, it could be a choice between the now famous Onkyo 875 and 905. I personally prefer Denon, but must admit that the current breed of Onkyo are worth a try and can beat the parallel ranges in Denon are Marantz models with sheer power and authority.

For the source there are plethoras of options out there. There are the like of Oppo that may be good value for money but difficult to get here, then there are the pioneer/CA models in the 10-15k range. Imo, you should look at least a 1940 from Denon or a DV6001 from Marantz. My personal suggestion would be the mighty DV7001 if your budget allows and you are not yet caught up in the HD bandwagon. If the later option is your forte, then either you can add the trusted PS3 or a dedicated player of your choice.

You got a decent budget that can get you some good gear. Try auditioning all the various combinations possible and really take your time. Don’t get over excited or influenced by the sales guys or the so called self introducing ‘consultants’ out there. End of the day it’s your hard earned money and you should like how it sounds at your home, not at the acoustically treated demo room in the showrooms. At the risk of being misunderstood, let me make it clear that, the idea here is not to misjudge your intentions or knowledge of the said subject or products – just my 2 cents on this stuff; that’s all!

Best Regards.

Add-On: Yes, you can connect your PC to the system. The Denons are especially good in this regard, or else try the N range from Onkyo. There are option for Wifi or wired connections available.

Wow! if only life was that good! But worry not, there are still some confurations that can give you best of all worlds

Well…now that I’m looking at your room size, I must say the Dali would be overkill. Sorry I missed that out earlier. So given the said dimensions, the best option is to go with the a Sub sat system, something like the Kef Eggs would be one of the best options out there, should definitely check out the 3000 series. http://www.kef.com/ht3000/3000%20series%20brochure.pdf

Another very good package would be the MT-30 from B&W.
View the MT-30 at Bowers & Wilkins - The World's leading Home Theatre Brand

Coming back to the receivers, between 875 and 3808, I would personally choose the later. But then its just me. Some like the Reon processor of Onkyo, but I like the Ethernet facility of Denon.
Onkyo 875 vs Denon 3808

If you are considering the 905 then the similar Denon model would be the 4808. Again, here also I would go with the Denon for the WiFi capabilities once again.
Onkyo 905 vs Denon 4308

So it basically boils down to what you want in particular.

Happy auditions!

Dear Pranab

Welcome to the forum...

Buddy you got a nice budget...

Anyways, in a 12x11 room, you cant expect a screen bigger than 42"-46"...

So projector will be of no use... as until a screen is not more than 6x8 it doesnt gives much satisfaction...so its better you go for 42" Plasma...

Apart from that for speakers...when your main motive is Music and when you have decent budget, then dont miss out the Dali IKON range...
Dali IKON 5.1/7.1 Setup...

Dali IKON 6 - Pair
Dali IKON 2 - Pair
Dali IKON Vokal 2 - Center
Dali IKON Sub 230v

Rs.1,76,000 - 5.1

When you are searching for an amplifier, for these speaker range, then dont miss out these Amplifiers - Cambridge Audio or Denon or Odyssey - Rs.75K approx...

Keep Rs.80K for your Plasma, choose betwen Hitachi P42A01A and Panasonic 42PV70H...

Then keep atleast Rs.5-8K for the speaker and subwoofer cables...

And lastly dont forget the rest of the budget of Rs.75K approx. for the room acoustics treatment...as when you are considering most on audio the acoustic treatment is a must...

Other choices will get you B&W, Quad, Boston Acoustics, KEF for speakers...

Do start your audition buddy, and start shortlisting the stuff...

Anyway, which location are you from...???
