Price of Anthem receivers?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if any of you guys knew the street price of Anthem's MRX 300. I got the MRP from Kripa India, the distributor and it's 90,000. I'd like to know what the price from a dealer would be though.

Cheers,
Deepak

The new Anthem receivers should be out in a month. The 310, 510 and 710. The Indian prices have not yet been determined. I asked a couple of days ago.

I got the same info too...i just wanted to know the price of their current lineup to get an estimate of what the X10 lineup would cost...i have an MRX 300 here in the US and it's been such a champ...I would love to get another anthem for when I go back home in Jan (from Indian dealers). However, I don't want to pay extraordinary amounts to get one. At Rs 90k MRP the 300 is ridiculously marked up when compared to its Rs 60k price ($1000) in the US. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect the prices to be the same, but at 90k I would rather look at Arcam or CA receivers since they are priced similarly in India and the US and also cheaper (at least the 551R is). As much as I like it, I am not sure if I can afford to pay 30k for ARC. I just wanted to know if the street price was by any chance closer to 75k which is a far more acceptable and digestible number. This would mean that the MRX 310 which will likely carry an MRP of Rs 1.05-1.1 lakh will be sold for a little under 1 Lakh.

Re: Price of Anthem receivers?

Actually jinxed, that is a fairly common markup I have seen on other equipment as well, i.e, close to 50% of US retail. However once you are ready to buy getting a 15-20% discount should be possible, getting the price to a more acceptable range. Key is, on any quoted price in India, you have to bargain and especially if the dealer/ distributor knows you are going to buy then he is likely to discount. There are some hardnosed dealers who will not budge and it is better to steer clear of them.
Cheers,
Sid

Re: Price of Anthem receivers?

hey sid, how's it going...you're right, i checked out Anthem's prices in the UK and it's £999, which is nearly twice the U.S. price

compared to those poor chaps seems like we're actually getting a better deal!!!

and in general is 15-20% what I should strive for?. Based on a few numbers I saw, I thought 10% was the usual discount..no?

I spoke to this guy from Sound and Vision in Hyderabad about Dynaudio speakers and the guy was rather rude, or showed less enthusiasm shall we say!!!!...

Re: Price of Anthem receivers?

Hi Jinxed,
It all depends, but mostly I have been successful in getting 15% off and in some cases 20% as well. Not sure about sound and vision, have not done any business with them. However since you are going to be in Chennai there are quite a few dealers there who are quite good and I have experienced both Audio people and Cinema focus who were polite and knowledgeable with decent pricing. Also I believe Dynaudio distributor is in Mumbai, and seemed polite enough when I talked to him. You may be better off talking to him.
cheers,
Sid

Re: Price of Anthem receivers?

Hi jinxeddeep,

Please note in the new line up of Anthem receivers MRX 310 is not 7 channel and is without HD MA and DB True HD which is std in MRX 300, so it is not worth the price.

Your point of buying Arcam is also not worth it as I had Arcam AVR 600 with me and it was not as good as Anthem especially when it comes to Room Correction Anthem is ultimate.

I had done RC in Arcam AVR600, Carry Audio 11A and Auddissy RC all in my same set up and in same living room nothing has even come close to the precision of Anthem.

Before buying Anthem Statement D2V proc. I did have MRX 300 and MRX 500 in my set up they are way beyond any receivers especially the room correction is ultimate.

I already sold the MRX 300 and bought MRX 500. Having bought Statement D2V so I am planning to sell MRX 500 in case you are interested PM me. I can almost give it at 300's price.

I am putting a separate thread on my Anthem / HT journey.

Thanks

R. Balagopalan.

always great to hear directly from the owners...i agree with you on that ARC is the best room correction there is, atleast in the sub Rs 2,50,000 price category...After setting up my Anthem, i felt like my sub (epik legend) and rears (psb alphas) appeared out of nowhere after being almost non-existent when tuned with Audyssey XT (Denon 3312)...even more challenging for the receiver was the unsymmetrical positioning of my left and right front channels...one was closer to an adjacent wall and the other had none next to it...with my previous receivers I always felt like my left (one closer to the wall) played louder than the other...even after bringing down the dB levels a few notches manually post-room correction...

I did hear about the 310 not being 7.1...bummer!!...for me though, I don't consider it to be a big problem...we just bought a new house and the living room is not big enough to house 7.1 so we're stuck with 5.1...and since I don't expect my father to consider a need for 7.1 as a strong enough reason to make him buy another anytime in the near future, I think I can manage with 5.1...but i hear ya....i wasn't a part of that generation, but I can clearly hear the ghostly voices of all those people who bought component video based devices thinking it'd be good enough or of those that bought HDMI 1.3 compatible devices for that matter....

I will definitely be interested in the MRX 500 if you're looking to unload it...please let me know what you're expecting for it in a pm and I'll respond to you right away...thanks

Re: Price of Anthem receivers?

Yes I do agree that 5.1 is more than enough for a HT setup but dts HD MA makes a sea change in audio quality and the authority with which it handles the surround and sub. dts HD MA is really an upgrade or a feature to be expected in a receiver when we spend so much on a receiver. Regarding MRX 500 I will send you PM

Thanks for your interest.
