Onkyo TX-SR605 vs Yamaha RX-V663

Folks,

I did go through the forum on comments about importing receviers from the US and their compatibility with our 220v 50Hz power. Got some real valuable inputs there and have now decided to get one from the US which brings me to the subject question.

I've done some basic comparison between the the SR605 and the V663 but unable to decide which one? Both same to be almost neck-neck on features with the 663 only slightly better.

Would really appreciate any inputs here,

I believe you have an answer there!

Reviews/suggestions/opinions can only help you so much. End of the day, if you like it, nothing else matters.

Regarding the 605 and 663, the Onkyo is a much applauded model and has proved its metal. Having said that, the new line of Yamaha AVRs look really impressive. I have only read it online, yet to demo one. But yes, like you mentioned, they look damn impressive. I'll give it a shot just because of the Burr-Brown DACs on all the channels! Not to forget the USB convenience it offers as well.

Onkyo is better than Yamaha.

I own (in US) an SR-605 and it doesnt support PAL. Are you planning to use a NTSC-PAL converter? Or do you have an NTSC TV?

BTW, the performance is awesome.

I plan to use a PAL TV, however the issue with NTSC-PAL exists irrespective of the Onkyo or Yamaha? Guess that's the case if you buy the receiver from the US?

Not sure when cnet would review the RX-V663? They've rated the SR605 top notch (editor's choice I guess?)

I've printed the 663's owner's manual and will do a detailed comparison of the specs with the Onkyo's.

In the meanwhile will keep watching this space.

Thats mostly true. You can buy receivers online in the US that work with 220V and PAL, but I didnt find any Onkyos.
