Angry Vertical Line in Philips 5609 LCD TV

Hello,

After putting lots of thought I brought a 32 inch Philips LCD TV (model no : 5609) in Mar 2010. I was extremely happy with its performance till now, however to my dismay today I discover a thin red vertical line on the LCD screen. It was omnipresent across the modes (HDMI, AVI and VGA).

I lodged a complaint with Philips customer care. They will send some technician tomorrow. Incidentally the LCD is still in warranty. But I want to ask what could be the worst possible scenario. Also the TV doesn’t feature in their website any more. What if they say that the panel needs to be replaced and keep the TV with them for a long time? And even if they change the panel there is no assurance that it will not go bad after few months. So, I would suggest everyone that if you are thinking about buying a Philips TV, please proceed with caution.

I am totally heartbroken now.

Best regards

This is sad CHiron. This happens across brands from Panasonic to Sony not just with Philips. I hope Philips service does replace the panel and the new panel would give more peace of mind.

Re: Vertical Line in Philips 5609 LCD TV

Its mostly a loose or defective cable that connects the T-CON board to the lcd panel. But it could also be the panel but i doubt it.

That might happen. But if it takes more than 5 -6 days, you can get a temp TV till this one is fixed. You will have to escalate it though.

Regarding possibility of it going bad again, this might happen. Only recourse is to get extended warranty.

It seems to be a "Dead pixel issue" . Its common for LCD TV /monitors. Even one of my SAMSUNG monitor displayed a blue vertical line one day. It kept coming for 4 days , to my surprise when i switch on 5th day its gone and it never appears again till now.

Try in different ways..if you switched off your TV for longer time then, switch on and keep it on for some hours. Or If you switched on for longer time give some rest for a day and switch on.
Probably you could try with some "Dead pixel" removal softwares on your screen.

But since your TV is under warranty no need to worry. Let the philips guys check the issue for you. In my case my monitor is out of warranty. This issue can be solvable.
If possible fight with them to get the replacement. They might give you the replacement if the TV is used for shorter time else they have to service and give it to you i guess.

All new innovations have some flaws...

Usually they change panal only if its readily available. In my case they changed the set & if they dont have, they may offer a new set OR refund(rarely unlike LG)-

That was old expereince.
And I feel they tried to cheat you ..by giving inferior model ..but did not know that you are senior expert member of HFV,a doctor who can spot issues in electronic just by looking at it ,really and then there was "nautanki" of mistake and then "real replacement" was given.

I am certain this kind of thing happened with HP ( least with HP 2 yrs back) ,HP would have cancelled the francisee agreement!

Yes,very true. They said there were 2 sets & they picked one without notice.I checked the box & found HD ready model & confirmed it on TV.I showed my manual of 5609 & they said yes. I am little smart though(not oversmart)
