Difference between Full HD & HD Ready TV

Hello Dear Friends

Hope u all had a wonderful Holi y'day !!

I have 2 queries

1. What is/are the difference(s) between a Full HD & HD Ready LCD / LED Television ?

2. I have a Pana LCD television which is neither HD Ready nor Full HD.Will the PQ from my TV be the same if I use a normal DTH connection or a HD DTH connection ?

thanks

Re: Difference between Full HD & HD Ready TV

HD ready means TV can recive HD signal & display the image brodcasted by HD, but display is as similar as SD.
In Full HD
resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and will handle 720p, 1080i and 1080p signals

Resolution of HD Ready TVs is 1366 H x 768 V = 1 million pixels

Resolution of Full HD TVs is 1920 H x 1080 V = 2 million pixels.

* H = number of Horizontal pixels, V = number of vertical pixels
DTH operator e.g. Tata Sky HD brodcasting signal is 1080i.

Re: Difference between Full HD & HD Ready TV

My observation is that HD ready ( 720 P) under normal circumstances is not much inferior than Full HD ( 1080 P) . any normal user will infact not even notice the difference.

But that's just my take. :-)

Also if Tata sky HD signal ( 1080 i) is fed to a HD ready tv ( 1080i) the dosplay will not be SD. It would be as good as on Full HD TV.

I am a Tata Sky HD user with Full HD 50 Inch Plasma and these are my personal observations.

Any way there are only Few HD channels ( Discovery and NAt Geo which are 1080 i any way ) .

I have xtreamer and on that a movie Clip, One 720 P and one 1080 P only has slight difference, which is only there when I look very carefully.

My Take

1. Already answered.

2. For a normal DTH ( Non HD) and even HD in your case the differecne will PQ be minimal, it will only matter when the channel you are watching is HD.

For all other normal channels it will as good as a Full HD TV. ( I am not taking into account the scaling capabilities of TVs which are subjective)

Hi @ rajrs @ jatin

thanks to both of you for your inputs.

so you mean to say that in my case ( as I have a LCD which is neither full HD nor HD ready ) the PQ from either a non HD DTH and a HD DTH will be the same !!! Even HD channels like Discovery/NGC will be visible as SD channels in my case...Is that so ??

thanks

Re: Difference between Full HD & HD Ready TV

For TV sizes <=42 inches, No difference at all.
For 50" TV, barely visible differences.

>50" TVs will see quite some differences.

For normal DTH, theoritically HD ready TVs will be better than full HD TVs. But pratically, they are almost the same.

Also, Is there any HD ready LED TVs in market?
The one I remember is samsung 4 series C4000 which IMO is inferior to 4 series LCD from samsung.

+1 to Blasto, Explained wonderfully.

No idea about LED which is HD ready, I think Akai LED is HD ready, any way I feel LED is a Scam and only CCFL is changed to LED lamps and cost is bumped to users who are unaware, I also don't want to get into whole LED/LCD/Plasma issue.

Personally I prefer Plasma over LCD /LED any day.

Hi

Will have to check on this, I think Tata SKY has option to reduce the Resolution to 480P, but can't confirm this, Will check today.

My opinion DOnt go for HD Channels, they are good but Only Nat Geo and Discovery are there with Occasional Sports events like ICC world cup. If your TV is not capable you will be wasting money and on SD channels Sports events are available any way. Exception to this is Movies NOW which is HD Movies channel but reports are not promising. Personally I have not checked since it is not available on TS HD
