Exclamation Sony's X reality vs Bravia 3

Whats the difference between Bravia 3 engine and X reality Engine which is introduced by Sony in 2011. Can anybody confirm about the real life difference in picture quality (if there is any) in these new models.Or is it a marketing gimmicks to sell OLD wine in NEW bottle?

BTW here is the link for Sony Bravia Sales Guide for 2011. Interested guys can take a look... FY11_Bravia sales guide.pdf

well the extreme hi end sony teles have the x reality pro which is dual core processor. x reality pro is advantageous while watching web videos which are usually of low resolution. it will adjust the brightness, colour and contrast to give you the best possible clarity. also, all x reality pro sets have 3D.

x reality is a single core processor so it should be somewhat stripped down, but to what extent is difficult to say. also, most x reality television sets dont have 3D.

is it a marketing gimmick? could very well be. sony is having a troublesome time with loads of PS3 cases filed and slimming sales compared to samsung.
also with the disaster in japan, expect panels to be made in china rather than japan or south korea.

bottomline, if youre on the lookout for a new hi end sony, it will obviously make sense to go for these newer processors. if however youre already a bravia owner, i dont think you should feel too jealous about newer users. specs doesnt necessarily tell you the full story.

Re: Sony's X reality vs Bravia 3

Well from what i saw there is a difference in PQ but not to the same degree as going from BE/BE2 to BE3.

But the X reality pro version as per press release during CES is more advanced.
"The X-Reality PRO Engine is a two-chip digital video processor that optimizes high definition content, compressed HD signals, standard definition, and other sources including low resolution Internet content. Utilizing a vast database of 'ideal' signal patterns developed by analyzing and indexing and enormous library of film and video, the X-Reality PRO Engine compares incoming signals pixel-by-pixel with ideal scenes to display vivid and detailed images. Additionally, the engine's multi-frame analysis helps create missing resolution and Sony's Super Bit Mapping technology incorporates 14 bit up-scaling, processing and pixel mapping to smooth gradation and improve the quality of low-tone pictures"

The upscaling was better and it had a better de-interlacer.

If you do a side by side comparison, then it is noticeable.

Yes, Its seems that there are two reasons for this new chip to launch:
1. New Models require "new" picture rendering engines and a new chip name too...
2. The main advantage of the new processor lies in X-reality pro engine which has two cores compared to ordinary X-reality engine which will improve the picture quality over bravia.

Yes I understand that, however how about regular X-reality? Is it better than BE3?
