UPS or Stabilizer for LED TV

Hi Guys,

Just bought a Samsung D5000 LED TV, need to buy a stabilizer, was wondering if I could just buy a UPS instead of a Stabilizer as the price is same and I can use it as a backup .. when power goes off.. But is a UPS as good as a stabilizer ??

Is it a good move ?

As far as I know, UPS is for Uninterrupted Power Supply and Stabilizer is to stabilze the voltage to your appliances. If you want your apliances to be protected from damages due to voltage fluctuations, I think you should go for a stabilzer...

If you bascially won't to protect your tv from voltage fluctuation get a stabilizer.
While a UPS will also stabilize its not as effective as good stabilizers like V-guard Crystal.
A online UPS on the other hand will be much better,buts is very expensive.

if you buy a top tier branded ups it will offer better protection than normal stabiliser.I am not sure how you can get stabiliser and ups at same price though. a line interactive ups has got the AVR(automatic voltage regulator) and good designs offer faster voltage correction speed,(beacuse the ups need to ensure the computer doesnot reeboot during a brownout) and also will have a line filter/ mov based spike suppressor

we have lot of volage flactuations as well as powercuts in our area during summertime,..so what would be required more UPS(Good ones like APC) or voltage stabilizer(lke vgaurd) or combination of both..going for 51"plasma as next tv which requires lot of power!

So confused what would be a sound investment for safe power?

I am using APC UPS since last 3 yrs and do not have any voltage problem. Once there was some problem in our area where most of the houses electronic items got bust, but non at my house. I had experienced other UPS at my neighbors and relatives house, but APC is better in load (some time we run mixers also) and they have got a good service system.

If you are having constant voltage fluctuations, then opt for an online ups or servo or constant voltage transformer (CVT). Otherwise you can go for an offline ups from companies like apc.

I have a APC Smart Ups which costs 11k and it does AVR only if the incoming voltage goes below 200v and above 250v.
So because of this i use it along with a V-guard digi series stabilizer which won't allow the output voltage to go above 240v.

A UPS will serve your purpose best. I am using the same Samsung LED and am using with my 3 year old Microtek 800VA double battery UPS which has inbuilt AVR, Spike Suppressor and high and low cut off and it takes the load of my entire digital setup. If you have extra cash then go for APC otherwise Microtek will suffice. A Voltage Stabilizer is recommended only in places with very few power cuts and stable power supply.
