Wanted: High-end Cassette player
Hi,
I'm interested in a high-quality cassette player..only for playback, not really interested in the recording side of it anymore. Preferably a 3-head component. Nakamichi, NAD, older Sony, etc. preferred. I'm in Mumbai, but can also pick up stuff in Delhi or Bangalore (have friends there). Do PM in case anyone has one. Thanks!

Hi Abhijeet,
Be patient and wait for a used Nakamichi to come around. I have a Nak DR 10 and though its not one of the revered Naks its still in a different league compared to whats currently on offer from the Usual suspects. One question though. If u are not interested in recording why do u want a 3 Head machine? Try calling 'THE SHOP" at Juhu. They bought all the Nakamichi decks from the distributor and till last year they had a few new DR 10s/DR 8s for sensible money. Regards

Thanks for the reply. The 3-head is just for backup  , just in case I decide to copy tapes (although I seriously doubt that will happen, in this digital age).I did contact the Shop...they seem to be sold out of the decks unfortunately.

Well i still record on cassettes. Primarily i record from my own cds!!!!! That keeps the tape deck running. Frankly cant think of a place in bbay that stocks them. If 'THE SHOP' does not have them then very unlikely at any other dealer. U will get a few Yamaha tape decks though. Its funny u mention Nad as most people are not aware that Nad made tape decks. I tried one many years ago but i didnt like it and a friend of mine bought it(still uses it). Anyway will keep it in mind if i find anything. Regards

Good !
Happy listening ; And take good care of the deck; competent service/ parts are not easy to come by. Take esp good care of the pinch roller-maybe very difficult to replace-clean it only with a clean, lintfree cloth slighly moistened with water( safest );commercial/chemical cleaners can degrade the rubber( happened with me once ). Use isopropyl alcohol -again with a lintfree cloth, cotton buds can leave fibres allover. Demagnetise regularly-depending on your use, once every fifteen days. And, DO NOT use cheap quality tapes/ tapes thinner than C 90. Good Luck.
