High sensitivity speakers

Wanted a pair of High sensitivity speakers more than 92 db. Low wattage is more preferable. I need a better speaker in tact.

Re: High sensitivity speakers

Mainstream manufacturers offering high efficiency speakers in India are Klipsch and Tannoy.

I have some experience with the Klipsch reference RB-52 book shelves, which sounded good with a 6L6 pushpull. The same speakers were outstanding with 2A3 SET amps with even lower power.

The Klipsch RB 8X book shelf speakers are highly efficient and apparently have good bass.

I have been curious about EL34 amps as they are supposed to be very euphonic, which is something I crave. I see that you running a pair of these monoblocks, can you give us your impression of the EL34 sound?

Re: High sensitivity speakers

Yes I use EL34 as well as 6L6 alternatively. In tube amplifier high end components and built up quality delivers the quality. Mine is superb constructed mid quality is tremendous. As if the singer is singing for us. So natural. Generally speaking Tube amplifier lacks dynamism. Extreme high and extreme low are really tough. But mine is superb. Because it has been built with very high end components. With pass lab design. What I find difference between ayon orion and mine is back ground noise. Between el 34 and 6L6 I prefer latter.Bec it is so natural warm.

Re: High sensitivity speakers

I agree extreme low better left to boat-anchors and powered-subwoofers. You are also right that the 6L6 do roll off the highs quite a bit, but have decent bass and excellent midrange. They arent nearly all that euphonic, they sounded their most euphonic with discerbible sustain with Electro Harmonix tubes(anyone selling a quad?). Havent tried NOS, but what tubes are you running? 2A3 SET amps are another story - excellent mid and top, sweet is the word.

Push pull amps do not need overly sensitive speakers although it will help. Your EL34s ought to be making decent power ~15 watts per channel. The 6L6 make about 12 watts per channel. Speakers around 90-92 db sensitivity ought to be fine.

Re: High sensitivity speakers

Yes mine is two el 34 per mono block with two pre drivers. So the power is 35 watts p.c. Its driving capacity is equal to my BELCANTO 125 watts and denson 100 watts.

6L6 supposedly gives a scooped out (graph) sound with highs and lows slightly elevated compared to mids, where as el34 can sound peaky at upper mids. So does it really sound warm? Its sound is compared more to a Fender Strat vs a Gibson blues guitar.

Re: High sensitivity speakers

EL34s are supposed to be extremely euphonic with lots of sustain and rich harmonics - is this true about your amps? But then there are so many variables - the tubes firstly and then the implementation.

The reason I say the 6L6 is rolled at the top is that it never sounds airy and sweet in the treble like a 2A3 SET nor does it have the resolution. Unfair comparison, I know.
