Ah Ok.. I get it. There are probably many (hundred's) of CDP's in the + 2lakh category in India but you're right not may owners would be participating here. I suggest he take a trip to Singapore and bring a player back.

There are so many options.

Some one must have purchased & wants to 'upgrade' hence a sale.

I hear you. Patience is the key. Or may be you get lucky and find a deal soon, if you get lucky that is.

But still, I don't see the point. A CDP costing $2500 even if new will offer amazing sound. Improvement over that would be very subtle. And whatever you gain form of improvement may well be lost because:

(1) Optical disc readers and DACs have been improving fast. A product that sold for $5000 3 years ago, would be available for $2000 today.

(2) A CDP is a mechanical device with moving parts. An old CDP would never be as good as a new one. The tracking would never be the same (the single one most important function of a CDP).

(3) A CDP at that price point is more about synergy than putting together a bunch of costly components. The result would not be a hi-fi sound but a hi-fi show.

I would never depend on the second hand market at that price point. At least being based out of India, if it were Europe/America then may be.
