I have some 4k files which Iam trying to play them via my HTPC using the Kodi as the media player.

1080p files play without any issues. but the 4k files lag a lot.

Below is the PC config,

AMD 5350
Asus Am1a mother board
8GB DDR3 Ram Cosair Vengence
120GB SSD for the OS
OS: Windows 10 Pro version

Both the CPU & the board is capable of 4k playback as per the specifications.

^^ You need a GPU. The cheapest to play HEVC currently is GeForce GT 1030 for around 6K. I would probably go with something like GeForce GTX 1050 for around 9K

5350 doesn't support 4k decoding. It does support a 4k display but not 4k decoding. You'd have to add a GT 1030/ RX 550 or similar GPU.

Thank you guys for your suggestions. Will look for a good GPU then.

Install and run the software Cyberlink Ultra HD Blu-Ray Advisor in your HTPC. It will say what things are missing in your system which are required to play UHD Blu-Rays. Of course it is meant for UHD Blu-Ray discs, but it will also show what else is missing in your system.

Get a amlogic s905x based system and install libreelec. It will have much better 4k playback, consume practically no power.

Hi can somebody specify the best specifications to build a HTPC with 4k support ,budget can be around 20 to 30 k, If it can do good and the budget need to be increased ,FM can specify the same. Also curious to know have anybody tried bluray drive in HTPC ,is it worth than a normal bluray player ?

I think Nvidia Shield TV does 4k as well and should fit in your budget. Check out the reviews and its cheaper to get from US rather than amazon India.

Thank you very much...

Which SSD are you referring to? I am looking to get an SSD for my PC to run the OS only. Is 120GB the minimum amount available?

MaSh
It is WD. I recently upgraded mine with WD SSD for 4000. I saw another Adata 120gb SSD fo around 3500 on amazon.
