Hi all
I have setup my HT room for 5.1.4 Atmos system. Now I need an AVR for movie viewing for this purpose. My room is 12 x 11 feet and my front speakers are Dali Ikon 5.
Please suggest me an AVR. Brand doesn't matter but price does.
I am reading that some Atmos enabled 7ch AVRs can service 5.1.4 with a separate 2 ch amplifier. I have a NAD C326 extra with me which I can use for this purpose. Shall I go this route or buy a 9 ch AVR? I would rather buy a 9 ch AVR unless the price difference is big between a 7ch AVR and a 9ch AVR.

There's a Pioneer LX59 up for sale if you are interested in used AVR.
Edit: I have the older LX57. The LX series are excellent.

Sadly, don't think there is a 7.2 AVR with 9.2 pre-out capability..

Only 9.2 AVR have the 11.2 capability..

You can consider a 9.2 AVR and make it 7.1.4 with NAD C326..

Denon x 4300 / Marantz SR 6012 / Pioneer LX series are options..

But these are too expensive for me. Why these 9ch AVRs (9ch processing + 7ch amplification) cost more than double compared to 7ch AVRs(7ch processing + amplification)?

Btw I want 5.1.4 and not 7.1.4!

Which models are you comparing ?..

Most 9.2 AVR have 11.2 capability.. So either you can settle for 5.1.4 out of the box (or) use your NAD C326 to it & make it 7.1.4..

So it looks like I will have to buy a 9.2 CH AVR. So which is the cheapest amongst ONKYO/Pioneer/Denon/Yamaha/Sony?

Yes.. you will need 9.2 AVR..

Don't think you get the Sony 9.2 AVR in India.. Near top of the line AVR Yamaha RX A 2070 has 9.2 capability, so it must cost a bomb..

That will leave you with Denon x 4300 / Marantz SR 6012 / Pioneer LX 701.. Check all three prices in your city thru dealers..

Go for marantz sr 6012. Available at 115k from hifimart. Probably the cheapest 9 channel AVR available in India and yet highly capable.

For a 11X12 room, do you really want a 9 speakers setup? Not sure if it's big enough. Could get overwhelming after some time.

Room size has nothing to do with it. Base layer is 5.1 and height layer is 4 speakers. Even in an 11x12 room, you can still hear left vs right AND front vs back movement above you. 5.1.4 won't be overwhelming; it is just right for that size room.

I have already installed four ceiling speakers. If it gets overwhelming I would have an option to not use two speakers and instead use 5.1.2.

But right now I have put on hold my plans for 5.1.4. I have a good 1080p + 7.1 setup and I wanted to upgrade to a 4k + 5.1.4 setup. But right now I don't see any value or benefit to making these upgrades. There is no native 4k projector in my budget of 1-1.5 Lacs. Similarly there is no 5.1.4 AVR in my budget of 50k. Besides I will also have to upgrade my HTPC and maybe change the HDMI cable (running concealed from AVR to projector across the room).
My current AVR is acting up so I am gathering info for 5.1.4 AVRs.

Similarly there is no 5.1.4 AVR in my budget of 50k.

You might just get a 5.1.2 capable AVR for 50K.. But with time & competition, there might be AVR with 9.2 pre-outs in near future at that price..

At present, Denon x 4300 would be the cheapest of 5.1.4 AVR.. If you can up your budget a little more and get it thru someone from Middle east/Singapore/Malaysia, you may just be lucky..
