Hi All!
I am about to shift to another apartment where the wifey has alotted me a much smaller listening room, so a lot of my stuff has to go.... WIth a heavy heart I am selling the following:

1. My custom built Altec 604 8g...
This is a Active construction with each speaker being given 2 amplifiers: 50w for the tweeter/mid and 150w for the woofer. In addition I had even added a parallel passive crossover (mustmutter crossover). So with just a switch over I can play it active or passive. All internal wiring is Supra... This was a cost no objective build and has really kept me very very happy...
In the passive mode, I listen to them on my Line Magentic tube amp.
Building this costed me in excess of 3.5L INR.
Here is an old thread from the time these babies went live and loud! https://www.hifivision.com/threads/system-with-altec-604-8g-drivers.48741/

PRICE WANTED: 2.25L INR
Free gift: Will throw in the purpose built 4P1L based, fully balanced DHT preamp.

Safety Tips

For Buyers

  1. Always meet the seller at a safe location and inspect the item before purchasing. Following this one rule will help you avoid most scams.

  6. Ask for clear information on condition of the item, price, payment and delivery method.
  7. Use only those payment methods that you trust and are familiar with. Never give out your financial information.
  8. It is recommended to purchase items directly from the seller.
  9. Always test the functioning of the item before purchase.
  10. Do your research on comparative prices for the product.

For Sellers

  1. Try to take the full payment at the time of the delivery. Remember to use a safe location to meet.

Lots of enquiries folks... But most of your questions can only be answered by a simple listening session.
But here are answers to the most FAQs:

1. Sound in Active Mode with the 4P1L DHT Amp
The sound is very, very transparent. Clean. BOLD. With deep bass.

2. Sound in Passive mode:
Overall I find that the speakers are neutral even in passive mode, but the sound of the amp changes things... When I play solid state amps like NAD the sound becomes less resolving. With my Line Magnetic (KT 88 based tube amp) the sound has a very resolving, clean and WARM sound. The bass FQs become a tad lesser....

And yes, I could sell the DHT preamp separately...

Hi,
to all the queries here is a simple reasoning for the price that you are paying for these speakers:

1. A pair of Altec in NOS condition from the USA would cost you upwards of $1400 plus hefty shipping + 42% on the overall cost... That means a conservative (1400 + 400 + 750 in customs) = $2550 or INR 170,000 ++++
2. The Passive crossover from Germany would cost you approx Euro 500 Plus shipping and customs which would amount to at least 70k or more!
3. The Teak cabinets costed me INR 90k
4. The biamps and active crossovers were over INR 1L
5. The fully balanced, OTL, DHT preamp (its a one of its kind!) costed INR 1L!

Plus note, that the speakers were designed over a period of 1year after through testing by a professional. THIS IS NOT A DIY job!

Do the math!

Also, you will never get an Altec that sounds this good. Many FMs have heard it!
