I recently checked Airtel website and they have mentioned some recording facility for HD subscribers by upgrading the remote to a recording remote and paying a monthly subscription charges of Rs.25. They have mentioned that recording can be done through USB device of more than 4GB. We need to upgrade the existing remote for Rs.400/- plus delivery charges.

Is it worth to take this offer or is there any catch in this?

You can make recording using this feature.
However while you record the program, you can't switch the channel else you'll loose the recording program further. This is because STB has only one tuner.
If you are really interested in recording feature, then go for HD Recorder which has 2 tuners and it allows...
Record one, watch another
Record two, watch one of the program being recorded
Record two, watch any of the recorded program

Does it mean that I could only record the channel that I watch or I can record one channel while watching another?

This means, you can record the program only when you're watching the same; or you can record one program only while the STB is in Stand By mode.
DTH companies don't tell the same while advertising for HD recording with external USB feature.
But in case of HD Recorder (HD DVR), two wires(tuners) are connected from Dish to STB, that provides the actual meaning and convenience of a recorder. And it has an internal Hard Drive in the STB.

Can I watch the recorded file on PC by any means.......

NO, you can't copy recorded file from STB's hard disk to PC and watch them. Because they are ENCRYPTED files.
I have tried doing so, but I wasn't successful. There could be a possible software break to decrypt these files, as some of the torrent creators do that (I am not aware of that method.)
Also it's not worth doing as far as Indian channels and its programs are concerned.

See below screen-shots for more information on recorded files.

Do we need two incoming cables from Dish to STB for simultaneous recording and watching?

Yes they do. Two cables from the Dish for HDDVR. I just installed one a week back.

Absolutely, 2 cables are mandatory for an efficient HD-DVR setup, else you won't be able to utilize above mentioned features of HD-DVR.
If some DTH executive tries to settle for a splitter, don't ever go for it!

This was very helpful. I was trying to figure out the advantages of HDR over HD or HDplus STB. The two cable setup with two tuners is a big plus if you need the recording feature. As this is just a 1-1/2 page thread I was quickly able to locate the post!

Thanks Bro..!
