Hi,

I have Boston Acoustics Digital Cinema system.
When I shifted recently, the speakers got damaged and I need to replace them.
Can I replace the Soundware XS speaker that came with the system with the larger Soundware speakers?

I have put the comparison specs from the website below.

Dig Cin Sat Soundware XS Soundware
Frequency Response 150Hz 20kHz 150Hz 20kHz 90Hz-20kHz (3dB)
Recommended Amp Power 10 100 watts 10 100 watts 15 100 watts
Nominal Impedance 8 ohms 8 ohms 8 ohms
Sensitivity 85dB [SPL/2.8v at 1m] 85dB [SPL/2.8v at 1m] 87dB
Woofer 2 (64mm) 2 (64mm) 4 (114mm)
Tweeter (13mm) (13mm) (20mm)
Crossover Frequency 4kHz 5kHz 3.5kHz
Dimensions: (H x W x D) 4 5?16 x 4 1/2 x 3 3/4 4 5?16 x 4 1/2 x 3 3/4 6 1?6 x 6 1?6 x 6

I am a newbie and I thought that with the same 8ohm impedence, maybe I could upgrade to the better speaker.
I am not a big audiophile. The system is used primarily to listen to music from TV / youtube / bluetooth, and also to add some surround sound when watching HD movies on cable TV.

Can I do the upgrade and will it be worth the ~$20-30 difference in price (per speaker)?

Thanks for your help.

I am using the Boston Acoustics XS 2.1 sub woofer in LFE mode with a marantz receiver and its dong great in a 12x14 hall. Maybe you could try something like this. Get a decent 5.1 receiver and speakers of your choice. Use the SUB in LFE mode. That would take you to the next level for sure.

Hi abk1980

As suggested, better to get an AVR + 5.1 speakers.....since you are based in Mumbai..go and audition the many brands available ....shortlist what appeals to you...

If budget is a challenge, look at pre owned stuff in For Sale by Owner section for AVR and Hi Fi Ads..for speakers..I am sure you will find something good that appeals to your expectations.....

Tough & powerful BIC America Bookshelf 5.1 Speakers with 12 inch Sub - HiFiADS.com

All the best
