Denon AVC 1530 Standby mode

Hi, my Denon AVC 1530 amplifier switches on alright and I am able to change the input mode, surround mode, etc successfully. But if I increase the volume, nothing happens. The volume knob turns when I use the remote to increase volume. But there is no sound output and the display does not show any increase or decrease. If I try the surround or rear speakers, they display an increase or decrease, but again there is no sound. The Standby light on the left of the display panel is always on. I tried factory resetting the device as per procedure, but this has not helped. Any advice is welcome.
