Given that there are only three degrees of freedom in which you can move the speakers (forward, backward and toeing), experimenting with your setup and trusting your ears might be more easier way to find the optimal positioning than assimilating a number of theories (various abound) except for the academically interested. Personally speaking, I gave up after reading some of the theories, realising every room has its own variables and instead went the experimental route that paid dividends.

But I still appreciate (even admire) those who seek to model real world experience into theories as a purist pursuit. That’s what helps humanity learn and develop in the long run.
