FOCAL is it bright Really confused

Hi Guys

i auditioned Focal 714 with pioneer high end receiver in DNI gome theater bangalore and liked it a bit

I asked the guy to lower the treble by -1 so it sounded good

but my opinion was like its little bright to my ear and bass is also boomy....

Focal 714: 7/10 rating little brighter

Important advice: can i use wharfedale surrounds 10 DFS which are cheap
i am worried about 6 ohms is it ok

Av receivers shortlisted are : Denon avr 1100(rs 42,000), Marantz 5006,5008( its a bit costly )

Dali zensor 5 : Not so good didn't like it no bass at all
not good for my kind of music (electronic music like house and trance)

Please suggest me a good floorstanding

If I were you, I would buy speakers with the least bass and use the subwoofer to compensate. The best solution would be to get as many speakers as possible for a home audition and chose what you like the most. Unfortunately, that may not be an option for most.

If you are going to audition speakers, please use same reference recordings and do not let the dealer to use his reference. You may also prefer to listen them at lower volume and closer range to avoid room coloration from clouding your judgment.

Focal are as bright as sun and have booming bass. I share the same opinion as you. Try B&W side by side if you can and you will the difference.

Since you are in Hyderabad, Vector systems have focal and B&W side by side. You can listen with them connected to Marantz.

I owned focal 816 and 806, focals are on brighter side but not as bright as sun

I do not think focals are boomy bass if it placed in the right room. Focal recommend 30M2 size for 816. I sold 816 as I could not use it optimum in my 17x15 room.

807 was perfect fit in that room, so go for smaller focal if you have a medium sized room.

do u have any idea abt ARIA 906 cost ? how is the experience of 926 ?

people r simply forcing their opinions without proper set up or demo.
i am using focal 836v along with jbl l112 and yamaha ns 1000m.
i never found focals are bright like a sun, may be set up wrong.
the bass from focal is tight,never feels boomy.
may be partner gear was wrong.
i am using Sansui au 717 for driving focals with excellent results.

fortunately my trade allows me to listen to many setups
out of which i have heard more than a couple focal setups

i just said that at that price i can recommend more options
the Aria 926 being an exception

the 926 MRP is 2l
differnt dealers will give you differnt discounts
20% discount can be expected

magma you are right its not worth for the money I think the brand Usher is far far better than focal all the way

the thing is when you purchase hifi
you need to decide your budget and then the brand accordingly

at least i do it that way

when you decide a budget
select a brand that is used to operating at that range

if you buy a product from a brand that normally is positioned to operate in a range much more than your budget - normally i have seen that it purposely will not put its best in the budget range otherwise then it will cannibalize the range which it has put its best into

let me explain what this means

suppose you have a 50000 rs budget for a bookhelf
you look at warfedale Quad maybe a KEF etc
they are used to operating at that range
they put their best work into products at that pricepoint

You dont go and buy a budget FOCAL or the new entry level DYNAs ( just because you want bragging rights to a big brand )
these guys are used to operating at a 3.0 lak range for bookshelves at minimum
e.g - the Contour 1.3 SE or the Electras


of course there are a few exceptions to the above
rare companies have something at all pricepoints
though not all their products are good
and now even they have realized the cannibalization
