Gaanam - Malayalam LP by V. Dakshinamurthy

Hi all,

I recently got this LP - Gaanam by V. Dakshinamurthy. The LP says stereo on the front, but two songs in the description on the back have MONO written against it. I don't have a MONO cartridge, and have never heard a MONO recording. Does anyone have any experience with this record? Are these two songs in MONO? If yes, are there other interesting records that have MONO and stereo songs on them?

IMO if the LP is a stereo LP with mono recording, it just means that both the L & R tracks are the same. You should be able to play it back with a regular stylus.

I do have same Lp and I can play mono tracks with shields m97xe cart.

It doesn't matter whether the tracks are in Mono or Stereo. You can enjoy all of them on your stereo turntable. The only difference would be, when the Mono tracks play, the sound would appear to arrive from dead centre, between your 2 stereo speakers.

I totally agree. Karuna Cheyyuvan is my favourite, which is listed as MONO. I'm trying to find out if there's a STEREO recording of the same song in LP.

NO. only lp with both mono and stereo recording and one ep released for full set of all songs from gaanam movie.

Ente Nandhini Kutty is the best quality 45 rpm Malayalam record that I have heard .
