Some extracts from the article (in the link above)

............

The menace of the auto-rickshaw drivers Ask any Bangalorean or in any other city and they will have endless tales. Haggling with them is a real pain. Whether it is Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi or Mumbai, there is no difference in their stories.

...............

In cities like Mumbai, there are metered autos and taxis. But does this reduce the horrifying experience of the hapless commuter? Not really. Being a Mumbaikar for almost 25 years, I have seen many drivers refusing to travel short distances; most of their meters are tampered, anyway.

In most cases, these drivers take advantage of the helplessness of the commuters. In cities like Chennai and Bangalore, people who dont know the local language are more harassed. But efforts like these are a welcome sign.

................

So, for a change, people in Mumbai and Bangalore have come up with an innovative way of tackling this menace. The Meter Jam campaign has gathered momentum and the Facebook page already has at least 14,000 followers. The Twitterati are also busy spreading their word. The campaigners have also provided information on the BMTC bus routes to various locations to help people commute hassle-free on Thursday, Aug 12, 2010.
