Help in selection of Home theatre HTIB

Hey folks,im on the look out for a hometheatre setup in the budget of 50K.

Present setup is a 47" L.G L.E.D tv and a HD DVD player.

The sound from the tv is very good compared to sony ,but i need a little more bang.

I have auditioned onkyo ,denon, pioneer and sony and have narrowed down to 3 .

1> Sony HT DDW 5500,NOW this system is a 6.2 channel,ie

2 tower speakers
3 surround speakers
1 center speaker
2 subwoofers,yes 2 of them
2 amps ,1 for the sub and 1 for the rest .

THis system is come out recently and i heard it ,it was absolutely mind blowing ,clean bass, and to top it it has 8"speakers in the tower which are briallant though subs are pure SQ.This is priced at aaround 43000rs.Power output is a true 1500rms.

2> Sony HT DDW 8500

Now this is a slightly superior model than the previous one.

IT HAS 4 SUB WOOFERS,YES ALL 4 OF THEM.
3 AMPS,2 FOR THE SUBS AND 1 FOR THE REST
4 surround speakers
This is a 7.4 channel.
I have not auditioned it yet nor do i know whether this is released in India and no price yet.

3> pioneer HTP RS30

This is a 5.1 channel
Speakers are good can say 75% of sonys.
The sub though single is better to sony ,but sony makes up with 2 subs.
This is priced at 33000rs.

Before hearing sony i was actually thinking of the pioneer but this new sony will give much more expensive systems a run for their money.

Attaching the pics of sony ddw8500 and pioneer rs 30 .

The one with more number of subs is the sony.
Please help me decide ,even if you know something better than the 2.

50k is a decent budget for HT setup and u already have lcd abd hd dvd player..

please provide with some info.

room size.
usage (movies/music/dth tv)

also as you mentioned above .. please stay away from sony when u want to spend 50k.. not sure bout pioneer
for that gurus can iput..

also u can get an avr and pair of speakers now and upgrade

or u can buy a complete htib as per ur prefrence..
spend some time in the forum..lots of things to learn(before and after you buy)

and then decide.....

Hi iron

The room size is 20 feet by 20 feet and 30 feet high, basically a bedroom .
Its 50%music and 50% movies.

I do agree sony is bad,but this model is something different and worth looking at .

I have heard jamo tower speakers but nothing spectacular.

Forum has a lot of good stuff and people are very educative regarding HTS

Both these Sony systems may look big in size. I am sure, there performance would be nothing to boast of. I just went thru the specs of these Sony system u mentioned above, they seemed to have a fixed Crossover point for their subwoofers @ 150Hz. that means u can't adjust the crossover.

You said that you have auditioned Onkyo HTIB, But you have not listed the model. Not sure y u were not impressed with it. I BET Onkyo HTIB's are far better than any HTIB prevailing @ the same price point. I have used 2 Models of Onkyo HTIB's for the last 5 years and i can say this.

BTW 50K is a good budget and if u can stretch it a bit more, i have some thoughts for you. Hope you have heard abt Sonodyne Products, if not there is a listening room in Forum Mall. Audition them & then decide.

Buy only 5.1 receiver (Used) - Max 10K.
Sonodyne FS 2605 - 24K
Sonodyne C Channel - 4K
Sonodyne Dipole surround Spk - 9K
Sonodyne Subwoofers - 5 models in range - 14 k - 23K. (Your choice)

After few months or years (or) whenever your budget allows upgrade the receiver to upto date features. This is the best approach.

Guys is it really fair to look down upon a product even without hearing it .
Please hear it ,i know sony is bad,but this thing sounds good.
Maybe a senior member over here should audition the dw5500 and put up a review.

I am no expert and i like what pleases my ears ,not because its a top brand.

I have a full fledged home theatre with the following stuff

Dali ikon 7 tower speakers
dali ikon sub
marantz amp
Dune blueray player
Panasoonic ae4000 projector
basically a 7.1 and it costed a shade above 10 lakhs.

I have heard B&W ,Warfdale etc etc.

The basic one you guys refer to <jamo etc> cannot even play clearly even in half the volume the new sony can play and it even gives my Dali a run for its money .

Also this is just for my bedroom and i am not interested in the hyped up big show no go stuff.

The Muteki has 10% THD, and does not decode HD Audio. But I have to admit, It looks really sexy... Like a beast, ready to blow the roof off any building. It also is fitting in my budget. But 6.2??? That's a bit weird, 6 speakers, 2 subs. I donno, I'd rather Stick with Onkyo's TX-508 Reciever, and the HTS-528 speakers, for 40ks. I listened to them, and even music sounded nice.
The dark horse has got to be Denon 1311 and Polk RM 6750. If I manage to get these bad boys under 40ks from ProFX, then I might just might, or esle, I'd go with the Onkyos...
But yes, the Sony LOOKS really pretty.

Wharfedale Linton Heritage Speakers in Walnut finish at a Special Offer Price. BUY now before the price increase.
