Bought new Maxine 110v 1kva step down transformer to power up my US 120v av receiver. It was with normal 3 pin input plug and labelled for use in single phase supply.

When checked in shop, it was working fine.
Brought to home.My house single phase supply. The transformer not even powered on.

Took to my neighbours house where the power supply is 3 phase. strange, the transformer is working fine.

I spoke to seller. He said the transformer is designed for and work well even in single phase supply.

i checked with one electrician at my home. As he did not have multimeter to check, He connected one bulb through the output socket of the step down transformer. it was glowing very dim. It seems little output is coming from the output socket of transformer.

what could be the problem. why it is not working in my home and working well at neighbour home?

May be the voltage at my home is too low to power up the 1kva step down transformer?
But i heared transformer as such will not consume power.
Also confused how the bulb glows dim when connected to the outlet. Is it because of low voltage leading this issue and not powering the transformer fully, but transmitting very low voltage at the output ( may be not 110v at output, but little volt because of receiving some input voltage and that's why bulb glowing )

If i plug the step down transformer input plug to v guard voltage stabilizer, will Maxine step down work fine in my home?

Maxine voltage converters are Auto transformer type and you can test it easily. Remove the unit from wall socket with a Multimeter and measure the Resistance across Input and output terminals. The output terminal resistance is about 50% of Input terminal resistance.

In your case it looks like some kind of problem in the wall socket. Try in some other socket.

I tried in different sockets of 5 amp and also in 15 amp. But nothing powers on my step down transformer. But it is strange it power on and work well in my neighbour home having 3 phase power supply.

Is it due to low voltage coming in single phase supply not able to power up my step down transformer (or)

It is not accepting the polarities of my house wall socket (or)

Should I have to change the mains MCB and give a try

In AC polarity is not a matter. Further 3 phase supply of your neighbor house also not a matter here because the final wall socket power there also between Line & Neutral and which is again equal to a single phase supply only.

Ok. In that case, higher probability is due to low voltage that May exist in my home which is not able to power on the step down transformer?

But im running all other appliance like fridge, washing machine, led tv etc...

If I use May be 0.75 kva step down instead of 1kva, will it work fine? I guess 1kva step down struggling for enough power from my home to get on.

check your main voltage. also, note voltage of all three phase of ur neighbor. your's will be one of the lowest of three, ask EB to change ur connection phase.

Means low voltage is the reason why this step down transformer is not powering on?
Have anyone faced such concern?

If I use v guard 6 amps voltage stabilizer and then connect step down transformer to it, will this problem be resolved?

Nope . Looks ur home voltage has some issues. Check that first. Else u can power down all electric equipment’s at home and try if that raises voltage.
