I have an interesting story to share.... About 10 years ago I bought a Elektron EHP 606 device and connected it to my existing Amp and Jamo speakers. There is a song my Phil Collins 'Alone' where the instrumental music which I could hear a lot of stuff and I felt as if the room is filled with music. Now after 10 years, I no longer feel like that !! It seems I no longer can hear some frequency ranges!! Must be my ears ageing!!!!

It would help if you stated your age. I am not sure but can speakers perform the same after 10 years? Is the room still the same as 10 years ago? may be added/ removed furniture, curtains what not? Do you have a the same memory using headphones that you may have heard 10 years ago, that you can cross check with?
I think too many variables are involved, maybe your ears are just fine.:eek:hyeah:

Sorry guys.. the song is 'Alone' by Bee Gees!! and yeah, i am now 38 and there is no change in the room or equipment!! But offlate I have been listening to a lot of stuff on youtube using my headphones....:D

On the contrary I feel my ears are getting fine tuned and I feel I am getting to hear and know so many details in the same songs which I have listened way back in 1989.

I should admit that many of my gears have got upgraded my listening knowledge has grown up and as I kept listening my ears are getting fine tuned.

Let me see how my ears gonna fair in the years to come.

Note: my total headphones usage in this period is hardly 25 hrs max.

What is the ideal way to test your hearing capability ( frequency range ).

I have seen these youtube videos for doing this. But won't the headphone amp in the computer, audio card and headphone capability all matter ? In these videos, it shows you information about the frequency being played.

There r a lot of apps on play store or apple store which will give u reasonable idea for the disability. I feel it depends on lot of factors specially u r listening habits
.n do not forget a blood sugar test it's a major factor in nerve deafness

Badly. Which is one of the reasons I don't post much on audio sites any longer.

I can no longer hear the kitchen timer, which my phone app tells me is at 4kHz. Audiometry shows my hearing falls off from a mere 1kHz.

Whilst I have almost got around to buying hearing aids, the time I nearly did, the sound quality was so horrible that I walked out in disgust. I really don't think it has to be that way. I'll be trying again some time soon --- for conversation, rather than music. Actually, this story of me and hearing aids has been going on for over a decade!

This is not just a sob story. There is still plenty to enjoy in music, especially the live carnatic concerts that I still regularly attend, and which are often over-amplified anyway.

But... Look after your ears! And a check up with a specialist ENT and a hearing test costs very little. Do it! Unless it is the result of sudden illness or trauma, hearing loss is not sudden: you don't realise that your hearing is changing, because it seems the same as yesterday... last week... etc. Until you complain that the kitchen timer is not working and your wife wonders what you are on about.

I'm 65 next week. And celebrating, as I did at 60, by part-sponsoring a concert :)

Take care, Thad. Used to enjoy your posts. Miss them now. Always wondered why you stopped.
Good way to celebrate a life's milestone [emoji106]

After some right ear problem in the past couple of weeks which has still not cleared up fully, I went for an audiometric test yesterday.
Looks like upwards of 4khz is slowly weaning off at lower decibels and might soon be abracadabra if i don't take proper care.

Though I have stopped hearing very loud in the past few months, I will mellow it down further

Hey... where have you done the audiometric test?

I would advise a checkup with an ENT specialist as well as audiometry.

For the record, I go to Dr Narendran, Norton St, Mandavelli, Chennai.

For those in Chennai who prefer a more-than-western approach, I also once saw a guy in Lloyds Road, almost opposite AIADMK. ENT with attached Ayurvedic hospital!

Good to see this thread. I had a narrow escape with my left eardrums, they could have exploded due to sinus problem but still feel sharp pain from time to time. I guess that would be the end of my audio hobby.

Wow, @
