Hi Folks,

I just got gift from my wife - Aune Audio x1s Pro but not sure how do I connect this to my MacBook pro-2018 model. I am aware of the following options, your suggestions needed on this.

1: Optical -
I was assuming I can easily connect it through 3.5 mm jack with toslink cable. But was not aware that for later version of MacBook pro does not support the optical. Came across this article - https://www.macworld.com/article/32...tical-digital-audio-output-on-newer-macs.html and found this one - https://www.amazon.in/Behringer-UCA...ringer+U-Control+UCA202&qid=1611643290&sr=8-1
Is the best option and, do you think that sound quality will not get compromised?

2: USB -
Without driver I cannot use Aune right? If this is the case then I have to rule out this option as I don't have the rights to install drivers on my macbook, because it is given by my company.

3: RCA -
I have read somewhere that using RCA to connect dac will only use macbook's dac and not the Aune DAC. Is it true? If this is the case then my Dac will be redundant to improve the quality of sound. And then what about the phone, I have to connect my android phone through RCA only, with 3.5mm to the Left and Right of the DAC, will it improve the sound quality?

Thanks in advance

You are right about #1. 2018 Macbook Pro does not support optical SPDIF. However you should be able to hook it up to your Macbook over USB without having to install any drivers. Just connect it with a USB-A cable, go to Audio Midi Setup and select your Aune as the audio device.

Thanks for the reply. I tried connecting the dac to macbook, but it is not showing on midi setup. I tried all the macbook port with no luck. But these all port can recognize my WD external hard disk.

I am trying to connect this with this Belkin cable.
Belkin USB Type-C to USB-A 3.0 Adapter (OTG), USB-IF Certified, Black https://www.amazon.in/dp/B00WJSPWRM...abc_T225RX2Y8RSCR54ND5RA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Can you please help me with this.

Thanks in advance

This is a USB C OTG cable. You would need USB A to USB B cable as the DAC has a USB B input. Once this is done, the external DAC should show up as an output device in Sound preferences. There isn't any need for additional drivers on Macs. Or it could be possible that your IT folks have disabled external USB devices??

I believe Macbook Pro 2018 has 4 Thunderbolt and USB C ports thought not sure if all 4 ports support both. Try connecting to all the ports particularly the ones with USB symbol next to it.

Finally, I am assuming that you are powering up the DAC using the DC adapter as this one might not be power up over USB.

Hey, I connect USB A to USB B cable which came with dac through this otg cable. Also I have powered up the dac and it shows USB light on, on the dac. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi guys, can you recommend amy cable which will have definite solution? Either USB c to USB a or USB C to USB B which i directly connect from macbook pro to the DAC without loosing the sound quality?

Is the thunderbolt to usb A cable is certified by Apple?

If not u need to use something certified by them.

Hi Guys, I still could not find the required cable to connect MacBook to USB.
I have following options:

Can I use this adapter and will use the USB B cable to connect the DAC from this apple adaptor?

Or
I can connect this cable directly to the DAC from MacBook pro., will it work?

I have already tried this Belkin OTG adapter but it is not working with the DAC - https://www.amazon.in/dp/B00WJSPWRM...abc_T225RX2Y8RSCR54ND5RA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I am confused about which will be a reliable, workable, and compatible option.

Thanks in advance
