Is the Sony BDPS185/190 DVD region Free

Need to order this for someone known to me, does it have region free playback of DVD. I:E Region-1 to 6 and how is the upscaling quality to 1080p. Can anybody suggest their experience in making these players region free for DVD.

Sony BDPs sold in India are known to be region-free for DVDs but not for BDs. Best method is to test by self. Don't know about the S185 model but the upscaling of BDP-S190 that is sold in India, is moderate to good but not excellent. The model S490 is much better.

Thanks for the help, is anybody on HFV using the philips Blue Ray Players mainly BDP2600 or BDP 3600.

Can also any HFV users of the sony BDP series confirm if they are region free for DVD.

Sony BD players in India are not region free from Factory, but can be made region free by uing a URC remote with magic button (cost 750 approx). For details please refer avsforum for step by step details. S490 is a better model than S185/S190. If you are looking for region free for BD s well, better buy Pana BD players.
