Dear Members,

I have to get a new DTH connection for my dedicated theater, I don't like to watch TV on the projector but would like to see some special events like final matches or some live event which will be better in the bigger screen.

For this reason, I don't want to get into a monthly plan but use the DTH only for these special events.

Is there a similar service or a work around?

Thanks,
Prem

Not very sure if there is really one like that.... But if you already have a DTH connection @ home, you can take secondary connection & recharge it only when required....

Thanks elangoas, don't have DTH. Our cable operator charges another connection as one more bill whether we use it or not. Not the right solution for now. Have to do some jugaad...

Yes, DTH operators provide an option. You can deactivate your set-up box when you don't need it (like Tata Sky offers when you go for vacation, you can deactivate and reactivate when you come back, they don't charge for this service/for deactivated days and very easy to avail - just call them once).
Ask your operator if they have any service like this. Don't tell them you need it occasionally, tell them you live mostly out of town/abroad but whenever you come hometown you will need it and activate again for few days till you don't go back to work :D

Another option would be if the projector is not far away from your set top box then you can run a additional lengthy HDMI cable from your existing box to the projector and connect/reconnect to your TV as well. Not a good looking way of handling but still doable but the only downside would be that to operate the DTH you need be at the box.

great, hat means if you replace your cable with DTH, you can do as what the previous poster said.thanks

Thank you all for your answers, for now, I have run an extra cable and carry the set top box manually to the PJ when needed. Not a great solution, but I guess there is no prepaid STB for now.

The projector room is a dedicated theater room on the terrace.

Good and also if it is not too much to spend then you can get the wifi enabled Logitech Harmony remote (I am using one brought from US for around 6k). What it does it in my setup is that I have configured the Harmony hub and it is connected via wifi to my router and mimicks remote signals to all the gadgets connected in the configuration. You have superb iOS and Android apps to control this and also to setup favorites. My wife controls my living room TV/D2H via her Samsung mobile on wifi from the kitchen. Its slightly costlier but it can replace a max of 9 remotes and can be used to set combinations for TV/Movie/Music etc.,
This way you can control your D2H (Videocon settop black box and not the new White box which is not compatible) from your projector room.
