Have anyone heard of Lenco Turntables? I saw them in a shop nearby. Looks like a Swiss company. Wondering if it is a good buy.

Lenco is a legendary brand and they used to make some legendary turntables. However, this is part of the Lenco legacy. Audiophilies usually refer to the now, defunct Lenco AG of Oberburg, Switzerland who shut shop in the 1980s.

These days, the Lenco brand is owned by someone else (a dutch company) and they make cheap, plasticky turntables and try to market them using the Lenco brand value of the olden times. These turntables are no way near the good old Lenco turntables. They are pretty pricey as well.

My advise to you would be to stay away!!

Lanco brand is now bought by a Dutch and Hong kong based company and they are not good for Hifi.

+1 Very good advise, but its gone.....

+1 to going the used route. Look for a mid 80s or even 70s Japanese direct drive from Pioneer, Kenwood, Technics, Sony, etc. If you find one in good condition, you won't have to spend too much money, except may be on buying a new cartridge. These turntables are fairly hassle-free, not much setup to bother about except placing it on a level base and balancing the arm properly.

The Lenco you saw is not even a pale image of the glorious Lencos of old.

Congrats Sachin,
You are the master of turntables, and innovative DIY ideas. Carry on the great work and let posts come.

pkr,

As advised by the TT specialists above, stay away from the 'New' Lenco TT's. Am sure you will find a couple of old Japanese TT's in & around kochi. Also search on the local olx/quickr sites, as you might find a few for sale there.

Going OT:

Congrats to Sachu888, keep it up mate!

Another congrats to Sann for buying Shivam's Technics DD, will await a thread on your experience with the TT

:)

Just remembered, our forum member from Kottayam Kuruvilajacob is into turntables and he had some Japanese turntables up for sale. Why dont you get in touch with him. All his stuff is in excellent condition too. It wont be a bad idea to visit him, listen to his equipment and get a first hand feel of vinyl.

Another place in Kerala where you can find used turntables: http://www.gramophoneworld.com/

Sure denom, my association with vinyl goes back to my childhood, this TT is to bring back the old memories, and to listen to the old songs, which somehow, I don't like to listen from a digital conversion.

Sann
