I have a friend who has a used Marantz pm 66se and Wharfedale 9.1 for sale @ 15k. This price is not negotiated. Is this a good combo. This is not the KI and it is plain 66 se. Is this a good buy?

had a chance to have a demo of this. It is a flat amp and when connected the high freqency was not there. Some thing is missing from this. Probably 9.1 needs more power than 50W not sure. The amp needs 8 ohms speakers but these are 6 ohms. Might be this? The amp performed excellent with a pair of KEF coda 70. Your opinion on these please. But Coda 70 is charged at 13000. Are these speakers worth this much

Seems to be a problem with speakers 9.1 rather than amp since the amp played well with other speakers. Need of watts depends on how loud you want to play. Usually 20w is more than enough for regular listening.
Going by your description, tweeter in 9.1 seems to be problem. Take an audition again(should be possible since the seller your friend) and keep your ears close to tweeter to see whether it is playing or no. Check both speakers. Even 1 non working tweet makes the mix poor. Just take care that volume is not high when you try this. otherwise ears may get damaged.

Dont worry about 6 ohm impedance. Even 4 ohm is fine as long as you are not pushing amp to its limits for long time.

the 9.1 speakers got life when connected to a yamaha avr. i do not think that there is an issue with speakers. It seems that synergy is missing and the amp and 9.1 does not go well. The coda 70s are again used ones. What could be the price that can be given for these.

That is an odd finding given that Marantz and wharf are specially known for excellent synergy. However, since you are going to use them , you have to believe in your ears.
