Performance
- Clean, crisp & clear image
- Upscaler works
- Vibrant but balanced colors
- Fantastic 20 W sound with options like news, standard, movie, etc- no need to add any external speakers
- Accepts inputs from PC via HDMI and displays 4k at 30 hz
- Played a few clips- Bees (4k clip) and others from movies like 47 Ronin, The Dark Knight, Bajirao Mastani. Blacks are deep blacks. Images are vibrant enough pop out of screen at times.
- Gaming through Hdmi again was at 4k 30 hz. Changed settings from within Arkham Knight game settings to 4k- phenomenal graphics at 4k without breaking a sweat inspite of heavy motion on screen.

- Keyboard really useful for searching/ typing
- Access to google playstore
- Great in built sound- no need to invest in sound bar

Will post some pictures soon....

Yes, though one hardly needs a warranty that long :)

Take a look at the most recent threads in the forum on panel failure and it all happens to be <=5 yrs time from the time of purchase..

I think "longest warranty period" is more important then the "deepest black" for today's LCD-LED TV's..

What is covered in 5 yrs warranty?

nice tv but it has hdmi 1.3 ports thats a bummer for today's time, internationally 2.0a is the standard since 1 year.

There is very little that can be done right now with HDMI 2. I had thought of going for a 4K HDR TV with HDMI 2 etc but at what price? Secondly where is the content to make use of this technology. In my case I would rather use this TV for 4 years for HD or FHD content- by then hopefully dolby vision etc would have become cheaper. Currently I find myself pressed to find even 4k clips. If I find clips, the size is sol large that they will exhaust my internet pack in no time.
The so called HD transmission is yet to move to even full hd.

Just an update- the tv has HDMI 2.0. saw it at the back of the tv today : -)

It could be anyone. All manufacturing is out sourced these days. Samsung panels are made by TCL. But we still prefer Samsung over TCL because of better operating system or the patented picture processing. There is a tv on Amazon which is being sold by tcl. It's a 48 inch curved tv in which they clearly mention that is a Samsung model. If you actually check the Samsung range there is a similar model. But prices are 38 k for tcl but 90k for Samsung.

Yes, you are right. At present, Philips TVs sold in India, are made and serviced by Videocon. Same goes with Sansui. I wanted to know whether or not your TV is also made by Videocon. And as far as I know Samsung uses various panels, probably Samsung doesn't use TCL panel. I happened on a very interesting link that throw lights on 'Panel Lottery'

Philips is also launching some new TVs in India allegedly through Amazon which includes curved TVs. Those could have HDR or Dolby Vision.

Tested the ARC connection today. From what I understand the ARC of the TV gives stereo to the Marantz AVR. So connected the Set top box to the AVR using an optical cable. Now getting Dolby Digital through my Airtel DTH.

Hi Amarendra,

I have also came across this Philips 55 inch 4K UHD TV which is available in Vijay Sales.

I am comparing this with VU 55 inch 4K UHD TV which is available on Flipkart and other reputed brands.

I am looking for the refresh rate for 4K content. Is it same as other TVs like Sony, Samsung and LG or is it less (30 Hz)?
Also, I am not sure whether all latest video formats like MPEG 264 and 265 are supported on Philips or not?
Also, I was looking for LEECO but there are back light bleeding issues highlighted by many and hence started looking for VU and PHILIPS.

Your inputs will help me decide further about PHILIPS.

Thanks.

Hi, would suggest you carry the formats on a pen drive and test in the showroom. PhiLips advertises it's refresh rate as very high 240 Hz perfect motion rate but I am not so sure. Atleast whatever 4k clips I have played have been played brilliantly including some demanding pc games. Between PhiLips and vu I have put my money on PhiLips given their pedigree.
