Looks like the new Denon x2900H and x3900H are available in the US and Europe. Good to see new models after 3 years, but I was disappointed to see the specs in terms of channels, HDMI, and power are the same as 2800H and 3800H. Will probably be able to get good deals on the 2800 and 3800 though as they will soon be EOL

It’s great to see Denon releasing newer, fresher models, but honestly, there don’t seem to be many major upgrades or truly advanced features compared to the previous generations. At this point, it almost feels like the technology has matured so much that there’s not much left to reinvent in the AVR space.

The same thing can be said about Dolby. Historically, Dolby introduced major format changes every 10–12 years – from Dolby Digital to TrueHD and then to Atmos. But now, even after all these years, there’s still no real successor to Atmos on the horizon. Maybe that’s because Atmos became the most successful and widely adopted format in Dolby’s history, both commercially and technically.

So it makes you wonder: are they simply perfecting what already works, or are they holding back bigger innovations because Atmos is still generating huge profits and dominating the market? Right now, it feels more like refinement and marketing than a true leap forward in home theatre technology.

They should add rep outs in all models like Marantz instead of adding gimmicks. A brand can launch AVR with only pre outs and no power amp inside. There can be many new things and products that can be made.

I agree - also as chips get smaller and more efficient they can easily add more processing, pre-outs, support for Auro, IMAX enhanced etc

My 10 year old Denon satisfies 90% of what I need out of it.
What I miss is a wireless network connection, the latest and greatest Audyssey calibration and 4K or 8k pass through via HDMI. The latter two I don't really care as I have my Xbox hooked up direct to the TV. I am more than happy with the legacy audio calibration available. It does the job. The Network connection is probably my main gripe as I can't run third party REW calibration due to some issue on the wired ethernet port. Not the end of the world.

What I really want is more power. Quality, stable power. Which these new boxes of junk won't deliver better than what I currently own.

If only we could just upgrade the processing part after few years at reasonable price and keep using old power amplifiers and speakers and subwoofer setups with them

You don't really need to. Is what I am trying to say.
There hasn't been a fundamental shift in the way AV Receivers are built or featured. A 5 year old Mid priced receiver does almost everything a current gen one does. 99% of our viewing is via streaming apps, so the receiver is hardly ever involved in any video processing.

All these manufacturers do is keep re-releasing a new Model with not much changing internally. They are almost the same as the previous iteration.

I mean if there is a major update. Like from normal dolby to dolby atmos. Then we will not need to change the entire AVR and pay for the amplifier section again and again. We can just upgrade the processing part and use the current power amplifiers and speakers for many many years

If I am not mistaken, Nad avr's have the option of changing boards for major updates.
