Dear everybody

I am not a audio guru but little R&D through reading I do.

1,Other than costly CDP if you are using a normal DVD player Or some cd player the Music may not sound so good comparing to old Record players!!

2. Amplifiers after a range of 8k sounds quite good when connected to a record player (Vinyl) and the LPs sound really good. But the same amp sounds some what lifeless with a DVD player Why??

3. There is something called DIGITAL TO ANALOG CONVERTOR inside the DVD Player OR any Digital media player. Now the tricky issue is when the digital music like Mp3 or any other format is played the DAC comes in picture for converting the digital music to analog. And now the quality of DAC decides what is fed to the Amplifier.Don't blame the amp it throws out what it gets.Means the source the converted analog signal should be with minimum loss. Now for the price of 4k or 7k you won't get a DVD player with a quality built in DAC.

4.Stop Rushing to buy a 20k cdp or dvd player all you have to do is buy a dedicated DAC,connect your DVD player optical out to the DAC and connect the output of DAC to Your existing Amplifier.

5.Surprise a decent quality of Hi Fi sound

Our esteemed Hi Fi gurus on the forum are requested to give some inputs

Dear Sir
In theory your analysis is 100% correct
in practice there are few considerations in the Player to DAC connection
I have tried Toslink Optical and SPDIF out from
Oppo 83, Marantz CDP 5001, Pioneer DVD Player into
ESS 9018 based DAC of 1K Dollar cost ( Mid End )

Compared to optical, on 3 players SPDIF Sound better

Compared with each other using SPDIF

Oppo is better than Marantz, Marantz is better than Pioneer

the DAC has build in Jitter Reduction so Jitter was not the problem

I was puzzled till I found that someone had taken a 50 Mhz Scope

and measured/viewed the waveforms at the DAC end after the

interface conversion , IE if there is pulse transformer after

the transformer, if there is capacitor after the capacitor on DAC input side

the wave forms were quite different for different players

when wave form is distorted sound is blurred

different players are using different type of circuit in spdif out

different dac is using different input circuit in spdif input , where both are

compatible and waveform is close to square wave ,sound is nice

in Toslink the waveform is always coming highly distorted

I had booked marked the link where the wave forms are shown

if you are interested I will try to locate and forward it

End result : we need to ensure compatibility between SPDIF output circuit

of player and SPDIF input circuit of DAC

With A cheaper DAC , when I tried the comparasion

Marantz was better than Oppo, oppo was better than pioneer

I agree with you sir.I tested a decent dac with two different model dvd players of same company (Pioneer). For one model(dv 410 or dv 383) the sq enhances with dac,but for another (dv 3032) the sq degrades with dac. I think it is due to compatibility issue.Any other reason?
