I recently bought a naim nap 100 and combined with the naim unitiqute I was quite taken with the SQ.

It was my opinion that the SQ owed it to separation of the dac/pre-amp and the power amp.

Instead of say dac + integrated amp.

Is this view right? Or am I mistaken?

So I looked for similar dac/preamp + power amp options in the "shoe box" form or smaller size as that is my preferred size.

1. musical fidelity m-pwr1 and m6dac or m-clic.
But this amp going from many reviews was apparently not received well - so perhaps due to this MF reduced the price to one third the original price in the USA!

2. audiolab m-dac and m-pwr.
Though the m-dac has been well received, the m-pwr has received lukewarm reviews.

3. peachtree nova pre and 220 power amp.
Again only respectable reviews but nothing exceptional like say for the nap-100.

If anybody has heard the above combinations appreciate your feedback on their SQ and value.

Also appreciate other similar options forum members might be aware of.

The speakers I have are Totem Arros, Dali Mentor Menuet. Likely also to get either a Dynaudio x14 or Totem Mites.

Thanks.

I also see there is the exposure xm7 and xm9. anybody heard this combo? not sure if the xm9 can be used only as a pair or one will suffice for stereo.
