Hi all ,
I am looking for Good media player ( with gaming console will be great) .

40% gaming + 60% for watching movies.

Should support MKV playbak , i have lot of MKV movie library. Should have UHD support.
Should have Amazon prime , Netflix ..and other movie streaming support.

PS4 is great playstation console - not sure about movie playback and not sure it has UHD support.
XBOX seems to be good , looks like it has UHD blue ray disk playback , +1 advantage , not sure about other movie playback.

Nvidia shield - seems to be very good for movie playback - which supports vast movie formats + UHD support. But in gaming , its weak. looks like only online games can be played here. (downside its very expensive - instead we can buy gaming console + media playback like xbox, ps4)

Please advise

Ps4 is good for gaming, Netflix and amazon prime. You can use plex and stream movies but it won’t bitstream. If you need both gaming nd bitstream only way to go is for PS4 and nvidia shield. I don’t know about Xbox.

If you are in gaming and want native UHD support than go for XBOX one X as it is the only one that supports all present formats like Dolby Vision, Atmos, HDR10+ etc.

Thanks.
Hope Xbox one supports amzon prime , netflix ..etc.

There many many people including me facing issues running Prime video and Netflix on Xbox, some DRM issue I believe....
oh ok ..not aware of this issue. It my be fixed by software update ?
Does Xbox support offline clean movie playback (MKV and other movie formats from HardDisk / USB) ?. I think it should be .. These days smart tv itself supports these playbacks.
I think xbox one supports UHD blueray disk playback which is not supported by PS4.

Yes, Blu ray work very well with Xbox, somehow the using the controller as remote isn`t that comfortable.

You can indeed get xbox remote for media playback.
I am using xbox for my Bluray, UHD bluray playback, gaming and nvidia shield for streaming apps and kodi. If your budget allows go for this combo.
If that is not an option xbox can also handle netflix, amazon prime quite good. kodi has some issues with some file formats.

Thanks, I wasn`t aware about media remote availability. May I know which one you are using, google tells me there are many third party remotes available.

I never had interest in gaming until few months back. I had bought a ps4 slim as a gift for brother in law some 3 months back.

I had this " Uncomfortable " Thing in the beginning. Then slowly after I got good at gaming, controller became handy than my lgs magic remote. I think it's a matter of getting used.

Sorry some text missed in previous message. And my wife gifted me a xbox One x a month back. I liked both. Can't say one is better than other, though on graohics terms x has an edge. But I strangely liked the color profile of ps4.... Now back to the previous message:...

I have seen PS4 pro yesterday in reliance digital ,
For gaming it looked great..

But to use it as Media player
It has only HDMI output / No optical output to connect to my AMP (my AMP is little old , dont have hdmi in)
I connected my hard disk to play movies from it , even though my hard disk is FAT32 formatted , though it detected Hard disk - it was asking to format disk rather than displaying content of hard disk.

How ever it has netflix app , and looked good.

How about Xbox one ?. Reliance digital dont have xbox one ..so couldnt check it.

For movies Nvidia Shield is better. I use it to play 4k bluray rips with HDR10 on Kodi, and it works perfectly. I can passthrough most of the high definition audio codecs as well

Hi friends,

Among the three, which is best for playing movies from HDD? Esp the shield. My req

1. Support NTFS format HDD (500 gb)
2. Support all common audio formats like DTS and truehd (newer Samsung tv's like my ru7470 doesn't support DTS, only truehd)
3. x265 4k HDR 10 etc playback supported

I don't game much... And most of my movie watching is from streaming and from usb So even a good quality media player box would suffice...

Thanks,
S

Ps4 pro (ps4 is limited to 1080p)give edge in gaming and for everything else ps4 works as good as any other, and ps4 also have bit streaming. Netflix works on ps4 not sure for prime.

You can go for Himedia q5 pro or Nvidia shield. Nvidia shield is overpriced in India so better to get from USA or UK. I am using Himedia q5 pro and it flawlessly plays all media files including h264 i throw at it using a 2tb hdd. I use kodi app in it and it bitstreams dolby atmos

The Xbox One S has support for Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and can stream through network shared files from your PC directly. USB media playback is also supported. And to top it off, the One S is cheaper than the One X and PS4 Pro.

For movies, there is nothing better than the Nvidia Shield.
I use it, it runs anything from a 4tb external HDD, supports 2 external HDDs at a time.
For multiplatform gaming, the Xbox one X is the best with even support upto 4k 60 fps in some titles. For exclusives, get the PS4 Pro.
TBH i dont think buying a console right now is a good idea as the next gen Xbox and PS 5 are just a year away. So wait for it
