I am a fan of Ilaiyaraja and normally listen to his golden oldies a lot. Recently I have been listening to some of the songs from movies like Mayakam Enna (Voda voda), Osthey (pendatti etc), 3 (Kannazhaga) etc via headphones from a website and have been impressed by the quality of the mp3(claimed to be 320 kbps). I don't know whether a lot of effort's put into the recording quality etc but it's definitely enjoyable.

The cans are an old pair of AKG and direct from the laptop, may try using the headphone output of a DAC to see if it makes a difference, but for now I am enjoying the music and that is without even a single malt

It will be very appreciable if Maestro-Illayaraja summons all his singers and musicians and make them sing all those golden songs again and records them at very high quality and releases them in sa-cd's or at least cd's. I would buy all those collections blindfolded. I love all the songs composed by Illayaraja, but the problem is, none of those songs are available to us in high quality.
Wish that Illayaraja gets inspired by this idea and does it. Then, he will for sure earn a lot of cash and all his golden-evergreen melodies will be saved.

I dont think so it should be re-recorded it will loose itz charm and beauty. Earlier recording are best.

Mayakkam Enna got good recording quality. I dont like Thamans continuous usage of Techno Voices in his songs. Btw what is that site?

Dont judge the recordings from the commercially available CDs, listen to his LPs then you will know for your self.

Yes, what Murali told is right. I have his few transfer of songs from LP to flac and it is mind blowing and fine clarity.

Regards

I have put aside my turntable as it's not very practical using it with toddlers around. I'll have a search online to see if Ilaiyaraja's songs are uploaded as flacs on any site.

Hi Pr,

There used to be shop at Lattice Bridge road Adyar for Vinyl rips. Contact Srikarkav or search his threads he had mentioned about it in one of the posts. But I am not sure if Ilaiyaraaja's songs are available from them.

I agree with Murali. Play just these two LP albums in a better sounding TT setup... you will be amazed by the quality of recording.
1. Priya
2. Ninaivellam Nithya.

Absolutely true, but finding them is like searching for a hidden treasure. Where as, it is very easy to find western Jazz Sacd's and Cd's like Miles Davis, released in the 1950's.
Not every one, including me, can find and buy a hi-quality recording of our Illayaraja music, which is very disappointing for music lovers like me.
All I am trying to say is that, all the music played by our Illayaraja must be available for sale at very high quality.
This is not an argument, but a wish.

Ilaiyaraajas recent cd of the tamil film Megha has been recorded at Hungary and mixed and mastered at London!rgds

Oh.. Pls Dont recall about LP's.Recently i had chance to some Music of some Bakyaraj Film in LP.
God, the Audio quality coming out from a even Normal speakers was mind blowing. But happy note is he doent had any Isai Raja's Lp. Else i would have been Mad looking for the TT and LP by now.

The best thing in LP is, Even the Jizz Sound will be treated as Music for our ears, as such a audio quality you can expect.

Good thing is I have planned to set-up turn table for 80's and Old music.

Sindhu Bhairavi is one of the most wanted LP am Looking for out of 100+- I need to get dissolve in the Violin and Mirudhangam which mergers with KJJ Voice.

This thread reminds me of the days of my biannual trips to chennai from delhi. In those days (circa late 70s and 80s)we hardly got to listen to latest tamil songs in Delhi. So once the ritual visit to relatives started i used to pester my cousins(lot of them) to list me the best songs released since my last visit. I used to listen to radio also in chennai. I used to compile a list of at least 100 songs in a couple of weeks. Then search for nearest good quality recording shop started. If the recording was album wise then the charges were less. But if one had to pick and choose the songs then the rates for recording per cassette was higher.
The shopkeepers had a hard time:lol::mad: with me as if recordings contained crackle, pop etc of vinyl at any point they had to rerecord the songs.
the net result was that i had an enviable collection at the end of the trip which my cousins did not have as i had collected the songs from various sources.:):)
Basically it was recorded in C-60 songs as C-90(90 minutes) cassette were not supposed to be kind to cassette players due to their longer playing period and it was also quicker to rewind etc. with 60 minute cassettes end to end.
