I never listened English Songs / Music before I went for auditions for my HT. In most of the stores, I watched the song - Hotel California and just loved it. Can someone suggest me few similar songs which are very instrumental and musical like this. Another one from Bollywood I like is - "Parda" from "Once Upon A Time In Mumbai" movie.

I think it is an HFV joke that HiFiVision made me hate Hotel California! Whoa! Not Again!

Are you able to listen to Western-classical orchestral music? Of course, it helps if a person likes it, and might be pretty pointless if they don't, but there is nothing else so complex, so mixed, with such a big dynamic range (far less likely to have been messed up by the mastering) and such a wide range of frequencies. You also have a sound stage of not four or five or six voices and instruments, but of dozens.

There is nothing like it when it comes to either testing or showing off hifi.

Of course, if you don't like it... Well, I can sympathise, because I don't much like the rather clinical sort of trad jazz which is regularly used to show off a different aspect of recordings and music playing. Which is another thing you can try, if you want to get into the individual oscillations of a female vocal cord, or detect left/right from right/left inn the vibration of a double-bass string!

I suppose that classical and jazz were the major genres in the history of hifi listening.

Reading between the lines, I am guessing you like songs that have a nice melody/tune, that has good backing acoustic guitar - or better still, multiple (and multi-layered) acoustic guitars?

As preth suggests, Dire Straits (Mark Knopfler) plays like that. Actually a lot of unplugged stuff is like this. Rock music stripped down to its basic elements. No distorted guitars, no effects, just good old honest music and genuine tunes and melodies.

Or maybe I am getting it wrong. Still, these are good songs

Here are some similar sounding songs that I like:

Whitesnake - Sailing Ships

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Led Zeppelin - Going To California

America - A Horse With No Name

Stuck In The Middle With You

A newer band that I really like is Fink:
Fink - Shakespeare

Fink - Pilgrim

There's a metric ton more - so let me know if I am completely offbase or if you want more such suggestions.

You might go with "We used to know" by Jethro Tull, the song that "Hotel California" stole its chord progression from :)

You may also like to try other songs of The Eagles. They have a huge body of work. To begin with, try:

1. New Kid In Town
2. One Of These Nights

Personally, I like practically almost all Eagles songs:)
