Hi All,

I want few products, mentioned here under. Hence, need suggestions, inputs from Audio Gurus here.

1. Projector: Currently using Benq HT3050, bought new last year. Its a good stunning projector, but getting tempted towards Epson-5030UB or Sony- VPL45ES. Read reviews, but its almost tied. So which one?

2. BDP: Currently using Pioneer BDP 180, again bought last year. All good, but keen on Oppo. Question is 103D or 203? The confusion is, while 203 is 4K its future proof, but neither 4k content is available, nor my projector is 4k. As for 103D, should I expect significant PQ/SQ improvement over Pioneer 180? Let me know your views.

3. AVR: Currently using Marantz SR6010, bought new last year. Again no issues, and it indeed is smooth operator, very sweet. But new speakers am intending to purchase are considered to be power hungry, am advised to upgrade. So question is - a) Marantz SR 6010 + Ext Amps b) Anthem MRX 720 c) Separates pre-power? (PS: If current Marantz can work with new speakers, don't wish to change)

4. Speakers: Trickiest of all 'wanted'. Currently using Jamo 5.1. Works quite well, but want to go one-level up. Also, plan is to have 2 separate systems for Music (2.0) & Movies (5.1).

A) 5.1 (Movies): Dali Fazon, Paradign Cinema 200, Genelec 8010
B) 2.0 (Music): B&W 683/CM8/CM9 S2, Dali Opticon6/Rubicon6, KEF R500/700, MA Silver 6/8, Paradigm Prestige 75F

Alternatively, can also go with 5.0 identical BS/OnWall Speakers like -
A) Dali Opticon LCR
B) KEF LS50

Few imp things to be factored in:
1. Room Size: Diminutive. 10x11x9 feet

2. Reason for 2 systems: Small room has compelled me to go for Sats 5.1 (non-intrusive/small footprints). 2.0 can handle music (can also shift it later to living room)

Sound Signature:
Looking for speakers which are extremely pleasing to ears. Sound should be Open, Clean, Airy, Detailed, Wide Sound Stage, and WARM (cant handle slight harsh, sorry Klipsch). Hence, choice is NOT governed by how much BOOM/BANG a speaker can create in typical movie environment, but how SWEET it sounds in music.

Give the aforesaid, what would be your suggestions. Again, my first concern is RIGHT SPEAKERS. Matching system can be brought subsequently

Appreciate your response. Thanks. :)

for your room size you could go with bookshelf for the fronts+ a centre if placement is a constraint. Add a decent sub with your current avr which is good no need to change it. Will be good for music and movies. Regarding your bd player, you will not have a major upgrade with oppo. would suggest you continue with pioneer. Do audition dali, monitor audio which go well with marantz

Hello MSHiFi,

Thanks for your inputs & suggestions.

While only issue I've with my Pioneer BDP & Benq Projector is that of temptation, insofar as speakers are concerned I do want to upgrade for sure. And since speakers in mind are considered to be power hungry, new AVR joins the list. Otherwise Maratnz SR6010 is as sweet as it can get. I have zero complains.

Insofar as your speaker recommendation is concerned:
1. I am in Mumbai. Had lived in Hyd while working with Satyam back in those days.
But unlike Hyd, Mum has its own space constraints. BS is an interesting option, but on stands will consume similar space as FS, as well as be prone to kids toppling them. Hence, for fronts am always inclined on full scale (3 way) FS. As far as surrounds goes, since my HT will be in one of the bedrooms, don't want big ones (might look odd hanging on either side of the bed)

That said, any specific models of Dali & Monitor Audio you'd recommend? And I'd like to know why B&W and KEF R series was not on list. Are they not good in your view?
Let me know.

Appreciate your reply. And thanks again!

DS

I don't have any issues

Hi All,

Will skip the PJ & BDP as i have no experience with them..

3. AVR: Currently using Marantz SR6010, bought new last year. Again no issues, and it indeed is smooth operator, very sweet. Not sure how low impedance these speakers might dip to, but Marantz SR 6010 is capable of handling 4 ohms speaker..

Alternatively, can also go with 5.0 identical BS/OnWall Speakers like -
A) Dali Opticon LCR
B) KEF LS50

Few imp things to be factored in:

4. Speakers: Trickiest of all 'wanted'. Currently using Jamo 5.1. Works quite well, but want to go one-level up.
Never heard the speakers you have mentioned, but 5 or more identical speaker would be great and should be a good upgrade from your Jamo 5.1 HT package..Dali Opticon LCR should do for you as it has mounting options which the KEF LS 50 doesn't have..

Also, plan is to have 2 separate systems for Music (2.0) & Movies (5.1).

A) 5.1 (Movies): Dali Fazon, Paradign Cinema 200, Genelec 8010
B) 2.0 (Music): B&W 683/CM8/CM9 S2, Dali Opticon6/Rubicon6, KEF R500/700, MA Silver 6/8, Paradigm Prestige 75F

Are you planning to have both stereo & HT in the same room (or) is it for a diff room?

Hi Elangoas,

Thanks for your inputs. Appreciate same!

I did realize, Marantz SR6010 is good. So unless its a serious upgrade, I don't think upgrading to SR7011 (from 110W to 125W per channel) makes a lot of sense.

Interested in following speakers as 2.0 for music -
1. Dali Option & Rubicon Series: Auditioned. Liked them
2. B&W 600 & CM S2 Series: Auditioned. Found price higher for the quality
3. Monitor Audio Silvers: Auditioned. Value for money. Tad bright for music
4. KEF R Series: Auditioned. Too thin, boring. Disappointed

KEF LS50 are called 'mini reference' and included by KEF in their flagship. Auditioned them and disappointment was huge. By & large KEF isn't meant for my ears. Too thin and too polite.

Would you suggest any other brand? I like warm, clean, clear, airy, and body with wide sound stage.

PS: Price is less consideration, quality is more imp for 2.0. Which range in klipsch would you suggest? Can they actually work for music?

Thanks
