Can I use a 10A fuse inside a 6A spike guard without any detriment to the spike guard and more important, without causing any damage to the appliance? I asked a local electrician and he said that I could. But I have doubts. Will be great if someone can clarify.

Replace the fuse with same rating as the original.

The spike guard has internal components and wiring that is rated for UPTO 6A. If any device powered through this spike guard draws more than 6A the fuse will blow. If there was no fuse when the current draw is higher than rated the internal wires will heat up due to over current and burn the wires. You certainly don't want to allow upto 10A to flow on wires rated for 6A.

Many local Electricians have "chalta hai" attitude, sometime it really works also. But one should not take such risk as there is possible fire hazard which we can not ignore.
