Nowadays many companies like Onkyo, Yamaha, Denon etc are offering Stereo receiver with lot of functions and are more tempting comparing to the stereo amplifiers. But in term of sound which one is superior and what to buy?? Can anyone throw some light and have listening experiences comparing both...

Hi

The main difference between a stereo amp and stereo receiver is the radio bit and digital inputs....more or less both cases would have the same amp circuitry....

Based on budget and requirements, audition before purchase with your kind of music

when i had similar doubt on the cheaper cost of receivers, i found out from this forum that generally receivers didnot have discrete pre amp. although they offerred more functions, more output at lesser price the integrated only amplifiers were supposed to be having better audio quality. Not to mention interference from radio and other circuitry in receivers. The increased cost of pure integrated was supposed to be due to more attention paid to to components and circuitry and not on bells and whistles.
